    Hi all,

    New here.

Ive read that spreadsheet, some good info.

    I am after a 118TSI + Metallic Paint + DSG + Park Assist + Extended Warranty.

Went to a dealer on the weekend. Was getting somewhere and was working out a nice price, till the guys manager came over and told me my price was unrealistic.

Only offered $500 off as his "margins are low and noone would approve my offer".

So i kindly thanked them and walked out.

Now the 118TSI was $36042 drive away + 1600 (warranty) + $1400 park + $500 paint. Youd think id get more off than $500.

Also, he wanted to charge me metallic paint on the current 103TDI promotion.

I wanted to ask a question. For example, ive added extended warranty as something I want. Would I be able to get a better price if I add another option like Sat Nav etc (because of the margins)?

    Heres the "deal"

    5dr DSG GTI = $42,990
    metallic/leather = $3,800
    detroits = $1200
    mdi $270
    dealer del = $3,395
    orc + s/duty = $1,900

    Offer 1: $54,155
    Offer 2: $52,271 (saving $1,884)

Now knowing that the Dealer del should be $1,995 not $3,995, this supposedly discount of $1,884 doesnt even cover the inflated DD figure. And its still RRP prices! They would not at all go under or near flat $50,000. I've have knowledge (help from forum members) that I should be paying between $48,500-$49,000 so i had that in mind. I even offered $49,990 and they rejected that. They were looking $51's.

Told them i had another dealer with same car except leather for $46,000 (legit). Which i still think is a bit high, and to add on leather to that the $49,000 is not unreasonable price for them. But they still knocked it back.

    sigh.

Sucks that they wont deal, but I guess supply may be a bit light at the moment as the car was released in Nov and to my knowledge there has been no resupply shipment as of yet, so that may be the reason for the high cost?

Would you consider/have you tried out of state? You may get a better deal in NSW for example and then you can fly up here and drive it home all for less than the Vic dealer price.

But if you're after a specific spec and you need it now not in 4 months (thats right isnt it?) I guess you're in a weak bargaining position.

Thought of that when i was looking for a Mk5. But with a 6 week old baby at home, the wife has banned any interstate trips

Bingo, thats the problem. But i think ill be able to borrow family members cars for the time being, so i "may" be able to wait the 4 months (or so).

    Hi Guys,

I am looking for the following car:

MK6 GTI, DSG, Deep Black, Sunroof, ACC, 5 Door.

According to the spreadsheet the retail is $51,470, and the best discount I can get is (12%) says I can get the car for $45,294. Do you think this is realistic?

Also how do I qualify for corporate discount?

    Thanks!

The spreadsheet should only be used for a guide of what other people have got and is in no way a direction on what you can expect to get in a discount.

That being said people have used the sheet to aim for a certain percentage, and I personally think that people should aim for the 10-12% off the total price of you vehicle, this doesnt mean you will get it, however it gives you something to aim for.

Now for your car if the retail is around $51K then I think aiming for an agreement around the $46K is a good deal, anything less is a bargain for you.

As for the coporate discount you need to work for a company or member of an organisation that VW recognise as a member of their corporate program, the dealer will be able to tell you if you qualify. That being said people have achived the magical 12% mark without the corporate discount and the dealer may offer the same $$ discount anyway.

Good luck and let use all know how you go.

Thanks for your response, does the car have to be used for business purposes to qualify for this or can it still be fully personal?

    Thanks

You have to fill out a form, and whilst it said that the car was for business on my original form, I changed it and they didnt seem to care, so I guess it is down to you specific dealer as to how they enforce the guidelines from VW.
