    Thanks for the help.

Looks like I will be selling privately

Does 'on road' = everything to take car home? CTP, rego, etc...

I think I like Euro plates more, can you ask the dealer to throw that in with the on road costs?

    Thanks

Yeah on the road means everything except your insurance.

Euro do look nicer, but I couldnt justify the $400 bucks, no harm in asking the dealer to throw them in though...

How are people paying for their Golfs?

I have a mortgage and don't want to pull the full amount out of it to buy the Golf...

Should I set something up through my bank or are the dealer financing packages a better option?

Or is it more of an individual thing and I have to shop around for myself?

Thanks again for all the help so far (dare I say the friendliest forum I have been on yet? )

Banks will generally offer personal loans, which dont have residuals, therefore you will be financing the whole amount. Downside is higher repayments, upside is you will own the car at the end.

Dealers usually offer hire purchase, these have a residual, pros and cons reverse of above.

I would say most people forking out 40+ for a car would be leasing/hire purchase and changing cxars every 3-4 years.. If you want the car for 5+ years then a long personal loan period may be the way to go.

Thanks for the spreadsheet... some good data in there.. Comparing deals that others got, seems like mine was pretty standard... With the corporate discount, total savings worked about at ~12%...

Visited a dealer today. They wouldn't give me a corporate discount, as I have to have at least 6 company cars before I reach the first tier for discounts.

After an MK6 GTI manual, 18" rims and MDI.
    I added it up as:
    GTI manual $40490
    MDI $270
    18" rims $1200
    Dealer Delivery $990
    Stamp duty $1692
    Rego, $650
    Total $41k

He started with $48k on road without the rims.

He put $2990 on for dealer delivery, which I cut him down to $990. Easy done.
Wanted $700 for metallic paint, however the red and white aren't listed as metallic... so held my ground, he gave in on that one.

He gave a figure of $45k. Offered $42k cash sign up right now, which he reluctantly accepts.

Comes back after seeking approval, and says he has to up the dealer delivery to $3990. I gave a big WTF, and he said he couldn't do the $990 and the $2990 is for the other Golfs, but the GTI has a higher price (which he couldn't justify). Best they would offer was $45k, and that was only on forward order (wait 3..5 months).

I thought $42k was a realistic price with the corporate discount and no additional bargaining. But they are offering $45k given a discount. Assistant manager stepped in before I left, but no dice So I walked.

I didn't think I was dreaming with my offer.

    Hi,
    I had similar negotiating experiences.
    The dealer delivery at 4 different dealers was - $3995, $3450, $2990 and $1600.
I was lucky enough to get corporate discount so went with the $1600 one.

2 dealers said it was their policy not to discount the GTI.

I also have to wait 3 months or so.

Ordered a Red GTI manual, only option is MDI.

    Good luck with your search.

    Sav.

This is also something i've been thinking about with my quote.
I've got the corporate discount, but half of the discount is in the reduction of the Dealer delivery from 2995 to 995, and i was never going to pay that much DD in the first place. So the Corp discount only works out to ~4k for me on a $59k spec'd GTi.

So the real Corp discount is only worth ~7%??
Is this what others have found, or are the 10% + discounts in the spreadsheets based on a starting price that includes $2-3k of DD??

I think you'll find that they included the DD charges as part of the whole package, in fact the far right of the ss is the DD that gets added to the total RRP.

Hi guys I think I should try and clear up some of the Dealer delivery issues here. As standard dealer delivery should be about the $2,000 mark and any dealer charging$2,995 or $3,995 is being a bit cheeky as this is just inflating the RRP and then making it look like they are giving you a bigger discount - ie a $2,000 discount off a dealer delivery of $3,995 isn't really a discount at all!

If you are entitled to corporate discount then the standard dealer delivery is $995

Of course all these figures are up for negotiation but it should give you a good idea

Hope this helps and feel free to contact me with any questions

    Kind Regards
