If a typical DD charge is between $990 to $2k, are the 10%+ discounts still achievable on these figures?
I'm still not sure if my GTi quote is reasonable or not because of the artificially inflated DD charge.
I just ran the figures on your purchase Glennb and the RRP with dealer delivery at $1,995 works out about $61,500

The deal you got of $55,000 is a very good deal and there is pretty much no margin in it so you should still be stoked!

Remember guys and gals it's the bottom line that counts not the percentage discount

What are specs? Same as above?
5 door GTI manual, 18", MDI and also the boot rubber liner, $42k.

Given there are no manuals with 18" rims available, it's delivery March. So I might also up the deal and get leather seats given the time to save the extra.

I'd prefer the leather, but I've just been unsure on the wear'n'tear and general durability of having it. I don't want something too precious that I'm afraid to dump on the shopping on it, or if the small zipper in the rear pocket of my pants is going to catch on it etc... Never had leather seats before, so NFI.

    Dave,
Thank you very much for your input as this has reassured me greatly.
I'll be ordering it early Jan in that case and look forward to being another GTi owner

I've got the corporate discount, but half of the discount is in the reduction of the Dealer delivery from 2995 to 995, and i was never going to pay that much DD in the first place. So the Corp discount only works out to ~4k for me on a $59k spec'd GTi.

So the real Corp discount is only worth ~7%??
Is this what others have found, or are the 10% + discounts in the spreadsheets based on a starting price that includes $2-3k of DD??
Glen I believe this is correct.

I settled on $57k for my GTI which is essentially full RRP less $1650 corporate and $2000 off the DD. Now I do not qualify for Corporate (my company isn't in their list and I am not part of the ACS as most who used corporate are). So he basically said that he would give me a discount equivalent to the corporate discount but no other discount in its place. In the end it worked out to be almost 7%. I wish I was entitled to the corporate discount as I would have more room to move. I'd have negotiated the price and then have corporate applied thereafter as it seems many others have done.

Couldn't you have just gone through a car broker as they would be able to get the Corporate Discount, and then get them to negotiate the price down further?

I am a retail buyer without any ties to the corporate discount. I essentially got the value of a corporate discount off the RRP with no further discount.

I believe some others have got a small discount from RRP + the corporate discount (ie a slightly better deal than I).

I am not aware of going through a broker entitles you to a corporate discount?

Based on the list of people buying from the thread...
    http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...ad.php?t=31714

"Expect a 9-12% discount without corporate discount, 10-13% with."

Corporate discount only starts for companies with 6 or more cars in their fleet, so I just targeted 10% discount regardless of corporate discount or not. Didn't negotiate either, just called up... I want to buy this car with these options, if you can do the deal for $42k including on road costs I'II come down today and place an offer. He called back within 10 mins and said it's a deal.

He knew if he tried to bargain, I'd just call the next dealer. Just don't ask them if what price they can do, otherwise you enter into a negotiation and have to fight over where/what/why the costs are. If you do the sums and know what the vehicles RRP is, stamp duty and rego cost are, then you know what a bargain is. Corporate discount just seems like another name they use, which at the end of the day is irrelevant to us. Bottom line is getting a good price

Brokers would get fleet rates and may or may not be able to get the corporate labelled discount but from some of the posts here they can work some pretty awesome deals. But hey I was happy with my price and just did as you explained went in though knowing what it was worth so when in was offered a price I knew it was a good one.
