Drive-away deals are on now, so there's a few grand off. And depending on the company you work for, may be eligible for a corporate discount.
Mk7 is not necessarily around the corner, but sometime next year?
The Mk7 isn't around the corner..... you are looking at another year or so before the first shipment even arrives.
The run-out sales don't even start until the dealers get their first set of the new generation model so you won't be able to use that as a bargaining chip.
I used this website: New Cars
Gave me a good indication of what the options cost and how much room i had to bargain.
If it still ends up too much you probably need to ask if you need sports+leather (5k+ option), or satnav (3k+ option) as this will drop the price significantly.
Just a quick rundown:
Base car drive away - 33.5k
Sports + Leather - 5k
Satnav - 3k
Paint - 0.5k
So if that is all you are after you should be able to get a new one around 42k

Save yourself 2k and buy a rns system online and have it installed by a vw specialist or the dealer.
^ Recommendations on who to buy rns from?
eBay is your friend. Just look out for a seller with good feedback as always. If you have a look around you can grab one with the latest updates for 859-900 landed in australia.
Alt I think Harding Performance do sell them too. Not sure on there pricing however.
If $ is a concern and you are still shopping around for similar cars...no harm to check the new i30 out.

can also recommend Peter from VWnavi.com, bought my RNS510 from him and it's been great, does not come with an antenna though as it apparently comes direct from Continental (manufacturer) so I had to buy one separately ($15 on eBay), they are piss easy to install, 2 plastic cards and a screw driver to remove the trim without marking, then a torx tool, which I bought for $9 from jaycar, unplug 2 connectors, connect to RNS with gps antenna, and you're done, if you want navigation directions in the screen between the speedo and taco you will need to have the car coded...
also sports pack is great, seats are amazing, and the wheels look nice
