    I think you would be pushing at $31 000- as that would near as nothing undercut the 118TSI. Id say you would be in business at around $32 000 especially if its cash with no trade.

    Thanks for the advice. This is the first time I've ever bought a car, so I don't really have a clue how hard I should be pushing.

    Yes, I do have cash so hopefully I can push for $32k then.

    Time for someone to chime in with a dose of reality...

    You've missed a VERY IMPORTANT POINT about the statement I've highlighted in your quote.
    It's great if you can negotiate a 10% discount from the "RRP Drive away price".
    So the RRP of the 103TDI with no options is $34,490
    The RRP Drive away price in NSW is $38,660 (This varies slightly depending on the dealer and also on the purchaser, as CTP costs can vary per individual).

    So 10% off $38,660 is $34,794 or a saving of $3,866
    But the current drive away price promoto is $34,490 or a more than 10% saving of $4,170

    What you need to understand whilst the marketting says that you're getting "free onroads", they are NOT free. Between Volkswagen Group Australia and your dealer, they pay for you the RTA for your registration and plates, Allianz for your CTP, the NSW State Government for your Stamp Duty, and they then also cover any of the pre-delivery preparation, transportation and compliance tasks which are usually covered within the "dealer delivery fee". So none of these things are actually "free", they're just paying them for you.

    The summary of all this is, that you've already got a 10.79% discount without any effort in negotiation.
    So no, it is completely unreasonable to aim for $31,000 (19.81% discount) or $32,000 (17.23% discount).

    Sorry if that sounds harsh, but that is the reality of the situation.

    Probably have to agree with most comments above about 31K being unreasonable.

    I have bought quite a few new cars and allways aim for RRP of the car as a fair price with no dealer delivery or other onroad costs. If your a reasonable negotiator you should allways end up around that RRP of the car only price. I normally manage a bit under that with a few options thrown into the deal.

    To my way of thinking the current promotion is just cutting to the chase, and giving you what you would get any other time of the year if your a good negotiator.

    Be mindful that your not getting old stock too.
    When we bought our new wagon earlier this year there were new unregistered cars on the lot with late 09 build dates. When it came to crunch time they would not sell these at any worthwhile discount, so we ensured we got a 2011 build date.
    An unsuspecting buyer would be easily fooled on this point.
    Make sure you check the build date not the compliance, as build date will determine its worth when you want to trade/sell in the future.

    So we finally bought a VW Golf yesterday. Got 2011 90TSI Showroom Demo with 20kms on it.
    Great price and great service. Big Thank you to Dermot @ Wangara VW in Perth.

    To give you another point of view, we paid $26,500 drive away for the 90TSI during the financial year sale last year. From memory, the discount we got was around 19%.

    Thanks to everyone who replied to my question in the last 24 hours. After having the common sense knocked into me, I went to Barloworld Five Dock and put a deposit down on 103TDI Comfortline DSG. No extras except paint and mats. $34500 drive away with no negotiation required.. It sounds like some people have had slightly better deals in the past, but I'm very happy to be taking delivery in just a few weeks time.

    Really appreciate the feedback as it gave me some assurances it really was a good deal.

    The only disappointing part of the experience was once the dealer sealed the deal, he left and some girl tried to sell me paint protection and some sort of damage insurance. She put the hard sell on and didn't respond well when I cut her off that I wasn't interested - "I don't want you to waste my time" - unfortunately she didn't realise it was the customer's time she was actually wasting. An unfortunate end to an otherwise straight forward purchasing experience.

    You'll probably need to be more specific with that comment, cause anyone can walk in and get a 90TSI Manual right now for $24,990 or DSG for $26990. Since your car is far cheaper than the 103TDI to start with, the onroads being around the same means that yes, your % is higher. It still in itself doesn't mean that you got any substantial further discount from the sale price...

    i think for 90tsi DSG the RRP is 27490 in WA : )
    BTW may I know what iIshould notice and check when I come to pick up my new golf markIV,and I am still a little confused about what is the different between MY11 and MY11.5,and what accessories should I get from an new car.
    From the specifications list(The book from dealer), I realise that there are some accessories are dealer fitted(VW GENUINE ACCESSORY),should these item been included in a new car or i should pay for them,thanks a lot : )
