Hey guys,
With my wife's Golf MK6's ( TSI 118 ) delivery coming soon, it's about the time to choose an insurance.
As my wife is the owner of the car who still holds an green P (she's over 25 years old), maybe the choice will be limited and a little more expensive. (We didn't consider a lot about insurance when we put my wife's name on the dot line...)
So I'll be most appreciated for your opinions/suggestions on what cover and company we should have a look.
And also I thought it could be a good idea to have a comparison thread for Golf mk6 so we can see what cover/company people are with and how much they are paying.
Feel free to add any extra information if you like.
PS: we are in VIC
Roy

also, with RACV, if you already have roadside care with them, then you get a discount on your insurrance premium, ~10%.
I know for mine, RACV were quoting - for a Mk6 GTI, 22 y/o and excess increased to $1100, I was getting pretty much the same as you and they were the best by far. A lot better than Just Car, AAMI, youi & Allianz... although do give Shannon's a call as they only insure over 25's, so potentially cheaper?

For 2010 GTI, located in QLD 4503, cheapest was RACQ at $522 with $500 excess, no driver under 25. Most expensive was ING at $888 with $400 excess. Bingle is also cheap at $567 with $500 excess but it is all online with them.
Hope this helps

I've just insured my 2010 GTI VI with RACV for $879.59 per year, but have included my 24yo girlfriend on the insurance, which has made a significant difference. Without her on the policy, the amount would come to $780.53 per year. I don't have any additional RACV products that qualify me for a 10% discount either.

does RACV limit your repairer if something happen...e.g. only a couple of repairers can be chosen which might be very inconvenient...
Did the ring around for Insurance on the Manual 103TDI in WA, and the best one was (unfortunately for roy) a WA company - SGIO, by a large margin. I did not have anything else with them to secure further reductions (like home and contents), yet they were cheaper by almost $300. They have an automatic 10% reduction in policy if the official ADR fuel rating is less than 5.5 L/100km. This means the manual 103TDI is cheaper to insure than the DSG one - 5.3 vs 5.6 L/100km). Most expensive was YOUI, then QBE, then RACWA, then HBF with SGIO as the cheapest. Less than $500 per year with $300 excess. Interestingly, when I tried to use the Allianz web site to get a quote - the web site stated that "it was unable to insure this car" - so did not get very far with that approach.
