Well - I did point this out many times! Even in this thread a few pages back I said that AAMI won't insure the GTI to its full value. Justcar are even worse, because they're meant for kiddies who modify their cars.

Allianz probably won't insure you until you're 30. They're one of the worst for that.
You could try Shannon's and see what they think.

But I think in the end, you're going to have to get your parents to insure the car, and just put you down as a specified driver, and just have to cop the big insurance premium and huge excesses.

Shannon's requires you to be over 25 too.
GIO won't insure you even if you put the insurance under your parents and you as a specified driver under 25. Not sure about the others.
I went with RACV, premium was $1200 w $1000 excess; Im 22 y/o.

Yeah - I'm not really sure why Pauly is complaining about $2100 to insure his brand new $45k+ sports car. Considering his age, I would have thought it'd have been much more than that. Hell, back in the 90's it cost me $1300 to insure a $15k Corolla. $2100 for a GTI today when you're a teenager is a bargain!

Yeah - I was expecting insurance costs to be much much more than what I paid, even colleges at work were surprised how "cheap" it was...
But you'd prefer to pay a bit more to ensure you have the best protection for you car; choice of repairer, etc..

Back in the mid-90s, I heard of an 18yr old whose parents bought him a Maxda RX-7 - $18,000 for insurance.

As you know, I was with NRMA with my 2008 Polo GTI. I actually just left them to go back to Shannons, because for whatever reason, even though I've had no accidents in 5+ years, made no claims, and haven't changed the car in any way, my premium went up 33% to $1200 this year. For a $24k car driven by a 30+ y/o. Go figure! So I'm with Shannons again, paying under $1k and paying "by the month" (with no additional fees to do so).

I'm not quite sure if I will be sticking with NRMA once I visit Derek for my APR tune.

You will have to compromise. you can't drive it until late October anyway but you will still be paying the same for insurance in that time. RACV at $2100 is a good price, you're going to have to accept that insurance is that much and this is something you should have looked at before you purchased. I'd be expecting more like $3-3500 given your lack of experience, age, type of car and the propensity for your generation to wrap cars around trees.

Don't sweat it. Shop around and just do your best.

It really is something to look into before buying.
