So you are telling me that if Person A and B own a Golf GTI. Since A lives in Brighton he will pay more than B who lives in Footscray?

That assumption is based on the fact that the likelyhood that yes more people insure in brighton for a greater amount.

    Doesnt make sense to me

Most people know insurance varies depending on location and whether it's garaged or not, as well as other factors.

I'm not telling you anything, what I'm asking you is that without you knowing the statistics for each suburb you are in no position to question the rationale behind the charging.

Insurance companies work on statistics (from claims, predictions and so forth) and this is how they come up with their prices.

That assumption is based on the fact that the likelyhood that yes more people insure in brighton for a greater amount.
I never said that and never made any assumptions.

Easy, start up your own insurance company and offer cheaper rates based on the way you see it and come back in 12 months time and let us know how it works

The insurance companies generally know what they are doing and if most insurance companies are charging more for one suburb than another it's pretty clear that they are exposed to more risk in that suburb and charge accordingly.

lads, check out www.hba.com.au comprehensive insurance. they were the cheapest of the majors (excluding budget direct/pay as you drive) whilst having
    - 3 yrs new for old
    - choice of repairer
    - free windscreen repairs
    - max $500 excess only

these guys were $300-500 cheaper than GIO, nrma, suncorp, aami, just car, shannons etc

I just bought mine, because i'm under 25 - although fully licenced with no accidents, etc. Cheapest i could get was $1375 from GIO with $1000 excess and windscreen cover. NRMA was 2200, AAMI 3000 :O. and half the places i called wouldn't touch me with a 10ft pole because of the age and turbo/supercharger. hope you get a better deal than me despite the P's! Youi's quote wasn't too bad, but couldn't beat GIO

I am with NRMA at 900 for the GTI - under 25 drivers included with STD excess.

My location put my quote up by $75 as i live in an "inner city" area. Thus more traffic?!?

Do not go with AAMI they are hell to deal with and that is from personal experience and issues friends have been having as well.

Suncorp and Alliance are my most recommended but you will pay for them. And they would not insure me as i was under 30 and have a turbo.
Life is a journey... enjoy the ride!
