    cancelling an order

i am thinking of cancelling my GTI order (optioned +++) as they have blown out the delivery time by at least 2 months. There are some stock CW available that i may be able to get but from different dealer
Anyone know what the happens if I cancel. Am I entitled to a full deposit refund? ($2000)

Tried to use search and found some posts in 08 where the punter had trouble getting deposit back.

If the contract is the same as the one I signed at Barloworld in NSW then cancelling the order can cost you not just the deposit but 10% of the purchase price of the vehicle.

That's why its important to add a condition into the contract stating " Contract void and deposit to be returned if vehicle not delivered by (insert agreed date) "

    Cheers

Check the contract. Mine had a standard clause that if the vehicle wasn't available within 1 month of the estimated delivery date, then I was entitled to cancel and have the deposit refunded.

Mine states 5% of the purchase price is due if delivery not taken (ie cancellation). In saying that however, some discussion the other day on this topic was that if you speak to them nicely enough - they may allow you to cancel. When we signed, they told us March - then the next discussion was April. Now they're saying it might go into the first week of May. I didn't specify a date.

    Thanks for comments.
    I specified 30 March 2010
So maybe I can use this as leverage. Prefer to have car but my current ride in a bad way so I need some surety of when it will arrive.

Mate its not like they wouldn't be able to find a buyer to take your order - hell they might even be happy to because they gave you a significant discount and someone else might pay a premium to have on quicker than the current June/July wait time for orders made today. I'd definitely take the friendly approach before you pull out the 'but its specified as March on the contract" card.

Indeed, when I bought our Liberty I have "dealer will reduce price by $100 for every week that passes between date contract is signed and date vehicle is delivered". Saved $1500, after the best price I could negotiate. I tried this again with (same dealer's) VW franchise and they wouldn't have a bar of it when we bought our MKV.

My dealer has offered a loan car as the vehicle now looks like it will be 3 weeks after the delivery date specified in the contract.

guess what most annoys me is that they have told me that delays with GTI production is the cause of delay...... yet another dealer has told me that there is no delays.
If they were honest and just told me it was a may delivery...

The day we signed I did ask that if we sold our other car by the end of March that they would provide a drive car which they agreed. Not in writing however.

Now delivery is expected in April or early May so I will most likely take them up on that offer if my car goes earlier.
