went to vw today, and was told the GTI isn't part of the driveaway promotion. was he lying?
I didn't bother trying to push the corporate discount as although I work for the gumbyment, I am just a contractor.
Haggling on price, even extras got me nowhere as this dealership was getting the car I wanted, and if I left it another few weeks it would probably sell and I would be waiting another few months (to 6) if I wanted another.
The manager wouldn't even throw in floor mats or the boot liner.
I could have pushed for it and if it was closer to the end of the month they might have done it for the sale, but first day of the new sale and having sold 3-4 cars in the few hours before I got there, they weren't too concerned with moving cars.
If you don't qualify for corporate discount, and want a decent price without haggling, then it's a good time I think.
I think mine was very close to 12% discount off RRP, which is pretty close to what a lot of people get with corp discounts and haggling.

When did this promotion start? I ordered my GTi 2 weeks ago and the dealer didn't mention anything about the promotion. Spec as follows:
Manual 5 dr
Metallic (Carbon Steel)
Leather
ACC
Driveaway price is $44,488 with corporate discount, which is a 12.7% discount as per the Price Calculator. Does that sound like an OK price?
Expected delivery is somtime between mid Oct and mid Nov.
Also, I've read somewhere that the bi-xenon headlights are now standard on the GTi in Germany (used to he optional). If they also become standard for the GTi in Australia over the next few months, will mine be delivered with them, even if my order was placed prior to the change?
Hi slam,
I think you got good discount mate.
Even i ordered my GTI almost 2 weeks ago and was told by the dealer that the delivery will be around 10 to 12 months and was not informed about any promotion!
I do not think you will get ur gti with bixenon as standard (u will if you ordered it though!). VGA australia charges around $2000 extra for bixenons! For MY2011 gti, LED DRLs come standard with bixenons.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
I think you did ok.
The only real advantage at the moment is people who don't qualify for the corporate discounts don't have to beg for it.
Just before easter I was looking at anywhere between 35-39 for a 118TSI (sports pack/BT). This week I could walk into any dealer and get 35 without trying.
Deal started last Saturday. Looking at my price list, you would be looking at $45,790 drive away on the current deal, so you did a little better than what a normal person could get. The advantage of the corp discount is that you can walk in any time of the year and get a good deal.
I have seen that the 3 door GTI in NSW is going for 38990 on road. All on road costs are paid for.
And a NSW dealer is selling Addidas models for 45K drive away.
I think the promotion applies only to the vehicles in stock! Do correct me if i am wrong?
Thanks for your comments guys.
