Seems like a great price to me.

Two weeks ago I had a car buyer search the country for the following spec within my budget. For $49,000 (hire purchase with no trade in) I pick up in the next few days an oct 2010 build date/ dec 2010 compliance. I cant wait.

    Black 3 Door
    DSG
    Leather
    Sunroof
    MDI (dealer fitted)
    Tinting (dealer fitted 35% tint)

According to the pricing spreadsheet that's about a 6-7% discount which I am happy with. I agree with stucam regarding a win win outcome for both dealer and buyer. Has anyone considered that this competitive nature of getting the best deal may well have a negative impact on the resale value of our Golf's. If you ask me keep the prices up. Like many other corporate buyers, in 3-5 years I will want to sell the car at the right price to payout the balance owing on finance plus have some extra cash in the bank. The reason I chose the GTI was for it's resale value. I think the pricing spreadsheet is a great tool for informing buyers and keeping the dealers honest. But If we keep the price fair, we also keep the resale value higher. Just my two cents worth.

ive leased many cars over the years, and it used to be in the past that u could sell a car at the end of the lease period and have decent if not substantial equity from the sale of the vehicle.
however, nowadays, its becoming rare, if not impossible to even cover the balloon figure when the time comes. this could be due to myriad of reasons, gfc, easy or difficult finance, glut of new car sales forcing second hand cars to fall in value, the type of vehicle. its all there.
ive heard of fleet buyers being burned whereas in the past, white ford falcons were solid as a rock to use as the fleet vehicle.
anyway, i would never buy new ever again. near new is where its at. let some other poor slob get reamed

    walbjj,

I hear what you are saying - having been burned on leasing I decided not to lease my last three cars which I bought new or as demo's. I run then with no minimum yearly KMs and use them for work purposes so I can claim most of the costs off my own tax each year. Leasing equals an oversupply of near new cars at two and three years old that owners just want to rid themselves of before the last of the warranty expires so they can jump into something new again and start the process over once more.

The problem I found when looking for a GTI was most of the second hand/near new examples for private sale on places like carsales.com.au were being offered by their delusional owners for prices either close to new car prices or in some cases prices which exceed what I can buy the car for as a retail buyer at a dealership. It seems these cars depreciate at about the same rate as my last few cars. 1 in 10 Golfs sold by VW in the past year were GTIs yet sellers offer them on the web like they are limited edition collectables which they clearly are not. I was more than prepared to take a good second hand example but when it costs more than new or within $5k of new I figure that saving or extra spend is worth the peace of mind to be sure I am not buying a reborn wreck, something thats been mistreated and now being offloaded or a lemon.

    Here is an example -

    2010 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GTI DSG VI MY11 Private Cars For Sale in VIC - carsales.com.au matchany&YearFromShort=1767&__D=GTI&silo=1011&seot =1&__sid=12AA506EAB45&__N=1216 1282 4294962677 4294962746 1767&__Ns=pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_PriceSort_De cimal|1||pCar_Make_String|0||pCar_Model_String|0&_ _Qpb=true&__Ntx=mode matchallpartial&Cr=12&__Ntt=GTI&trecs=17

    - of where the seller wants new car prices for his second hand ride. Why would I consider it when a dealer offers me the exact same car, MY11.5 on the road brand new for $52,500 drive away with all of the options this car has PLUS xenons, RVC, and ACC. Then again if you expect to make money on a car you are not doing it right. I figure the money I lose is offset by the enjoyment of the experience and the convience of personal transport - nothing comes for free.

Had a very long chat to a sales rep at the Melbourne Essendon Dealership today.

    Would not budge below $48,500 for the following options - MY11.5 MKVI 3DR GTI | Pearl Black | Manual | Sunroof | Dark Tint | Dynaudio | MDI | Bluetooth | Bi-Xennons | 18" Detroits. RRP = $52K.

Told him I'd deal around mid 40's but he would't go any lower. I think $45K is achievable, I hope neway :|. Will be seeing 3 more dealers next Saturday and will hopefully sign some papers!

ok, but wat about current stock or low km demos, im talking 2010 build that for some reason r still sitting in yards. are dealers still gouging on these or r they being reasonable.
ive given up on the polo gti and will just get a golf gti, 3 or 5dr im not fussed, preferr white, carbon steel, or black
looking at the ones second hand on carsales, they still want low $40s for essentially basespec with little options. realistically, they should be high $30s.
i guess what im getting at is if dealersrdoing deals on current '10 models at mid or low $40s, then i might be better off buying it that way
    anyone seen any in nsw

^ as above, i went with the Polo GTi on a 1 year lease, figure that resale will be pretty good considering they are few and far between in comparison to the Golf GTi's > Plus cost of ownership is an inherent aspect of any leasing agreement, owning a car and driving is not a free ride, nothing comes for free, everything has a price.

There is certainly some bargaining to be done. I just collected a MY10 5dr, manual, Carbon Steel, Detoits + Tints for $42,500 on road. It was a 90km (1 test drive) old demo 8/10 build plate.

As I traded in an old P306, my change over was well south of $40k.

This was all done after I was told my Polo GTI order would not see delivery until 2012!
