how do they justify these costs (not just VW but manufacturers in general).

When I ordered my car last week, it was $2,100 for the new Bi-Xenon's with DRL on the price list...
... however, the dealer charged $2,000 (old price) on the paperwork, which was automatically generated by the computer system.
They are probably not too worried about the price rises, as it doesn't count for much when you start negotiating a driveaway price.

Thanks, thats helped clear up my leather conundrum. If available I'll grab most of the options you list, but I don't know if acc or dynauido will make the cut to get it under 50k. I hope my bargaining skills are in order, any tips for getting a sound price on the outset?
Thanks too AdamD for your reply. Between yourself and rex I'm sold on the rvc and bt.
Quick question, my10/my11 - Are these the build year of the car? And am I going to notice a drastic price difference?
Is the 2011 model going to come with a wait? When I spoke to a Sydney dealer he said he had 30 GTIs in stock, half in cloth. Are these likely to be 2010 built?
Thanks for your help
Hey Bertie,
The price should be negotiated for a MY11.
Think of the MYXX numbers as identifiers that refer to what the car has on it in terms of options.. More so than a build date.
Example: MY11 GTI models have a xenon option. Costs $2000 and it gets you xenon lights with a washer system. These are built after July 2010.
Further,
MY11.5 cars from the GTI range that are optioned with Xenons will have DRL strip in the headlight cluster. This is specific to the model MY11.5. MY11.5s are made post Oct 2010 (thereabouts someone else will no exact month).
MY12s will be built in 2011.
So the MYXX refers to the model and specification.. The build date refers to when that particular car was actually built.
So my car I think is SEPT/Oct build MY11 model.
If you got a 2010 MY10 you couldn't get the Bluetooth fitted from factory.
Anyways,
You should try and get the list for close/under by a smudge than $50k. (for a MY11 brand new)
And yes it depends on who will look after you best.
