hi ripblade,
I am looking at pretty much what you've just bought for a second car.
Did you get corporate discount to get that price?
cheers
Hey Nick,
I got a good deal on my car over the weekend.
Golf GTI 5 Door 6 speed DSG
Metallic / Pearl Effect paint MP/PE
Vienna leather upholstery WL2
Detroit 18“ alloy wheels (4)* PJ6
Dark tinted rear side and rear window glass
MDI
All for 46500 all up, with a full tank of petrol and some other random freebies.
I tried to talk to 3 dealers and 2 of them did the same thing to me, 1 dealer was prepared to negotiate. I'll be more than happy to pm you the dealer I got the deal from if you like.
I got around 13% discount from the RRP of around 54000.
Good luck.

Update - without going into the gory details, we got stuffed around with 2 dealers claiming they made errors (after they accepted our deposit) and would not honour the deal. I nearly walked away from the GTi in frustration. I guess the only good news is that the margins must have been skinny if they were prepared to lose the deal - that gave me comfort there was no more negotiating room!
We ended up separating the cars and buying from 2 separate dealers to get best price. I ended up paying $44,400 for the GTi with delivery 2 weeks after the order was placed. The R36 ended up at $74k with auto tailgate added (to ensure prompt delivery, car in stock).
Despite a couple of months of being ****ed around, it's all ancient history now. The GTi is an absolute cracker - love that fluffy fart on full throttle upchange. And I can't believe they provide the launch program - cracks me up every time I use it.
I will be doing APR v1 upgrade shortly and also using Performance Box to time 0-100 before and after which I will post up here somewhere.

Hi guys,
I put down a deposit for my golf gti last weekend. Specs are as follows:
- DSG
- Electric sunroof
- Leather
- RVC
- MDI
- 18"
- Bi-Xenon
- Tint (dealer fitted)
$51,500 driveaway......expected delivery date late May
What do you guys think?
Hi guys,
It's been way too many years since I last negotiated on a "new" vehicle..
I'm looking at a base model GTI, as I don't feel the need for too many bells and whistles...the car I like is in stock too, which is good.
Black 5-door
6M (real gear shifting)
Media kit
That's it.....nothing fancy, drive away, $46,000
Is this a reasonable offer do you think..?
I've yet to push for a hard deal, though I am dealing with 2 yards operated by the same Company. Is it wise to play them against each other...???
Should be able to do a bit better. I paid $44.4k for 5 door DSG with 18s, premium bluetooth and MDI. Take out the DSG, 18s and bluetooth and that equates to about $4k retail so I would have expected you should be able to get down to $40 - 42k, quite a big difference from $46k that you have so far. I did use corp discount though.

I think no one has replied because you haven't said whether you're getting a 3 or 5 door...
I'm going to assume a 5 door otherwise the deal isn't really good.
On a 5dr, the 'drive away' price for that would probably be around $56,500 (hard to tell exactly, cause there are a few variables in drive away prices, and things like 'dealer tint' can really be a big variable - I've allocated $400 to that).
So based on that you're getting a $5k discount - or 8.8% which is good but not quite the 10 to 12% several people have managed.
Edit: Sorry, you also forgot to say whether it was Metallic paint or not! Oh well... Metallic paint will add $512.50 to the on road price in VIC.
