    The pricing would have been set a long time ago and they hold pricing whether the dollar goes up or down. Did VW pass on a massive increase when our dollar dropped 40% or did it hold the price? It held the price so why would it drop prices when the dollar is up especially when it will only drop at some point in the future.

    Would you prefer perhaps that VW have a totally open and transparent system where you pay the price based on where the dollar was at when it landed in the country? Or would you rather the current system where the price is held steady?

    I guess neither of us knows what the FX rate was when VGA set GTI pricing, or what the price of the Mark VI GTI in Germany was relative to the Mark V in Australian dollars at that time, so as to gauge whether a price change was in order on currency grounds, but I take your second point, Mav, re price stability.

    The definition of winning an argument on the Internet is as follows:

    Both parties unzip their e-pants and pull out their e-penises. If there are spectators, not only do the combatants pull out rulers, so do the spectators or others who choose to participate by taking sides.

    Then everyone measures. The one with the largest e-penis wins.

    As you've probably noticed, logic, rational behaviour, morality, common sense, practicality and reality, have nothing to do with an Internet debate.



    Who gives a ???? Gee if everyone made as much effort to get along as they do to try and outdo each other with pointless arguments that no-one else gives a about, then everyone would be happier!

    Take it somewhere else... at the end of the day VW's pricing is what it is - arguing about it here is really going to accomplish lots!

    Except for the morally outraged who think we are all being ripped off by VW and the stealerships

    Perhaps VW SHOULD lower the price of the new GTI and subseequently piss off the owners of MKV Gtis whose resale values would be hit. Discuss!

    Sage advice, Swallowtail, but pricing is reasonably germane to the forum, particularly if it makes people more aware of what is fair and reasonable and emboldens them to agitate accordingly.

    In terms of resolving it, I am happy to rely on my arguments, but in the event of a tie, where would I come by one of those virtual penises?

    Pricing is certainly relevant, but I would go so far as to say that only from the perspective of what people end up paying, not how VW calculate the RRP...

    As to purchasing an epenis, there's this website from Russia....

There is no point 'discussing' with someone that just wants to argue and not provide any reference or factual basis for their arguments, despite references being provided by other people in the discussions. I guess people here really do know more than people in the industry, or Customs and the Australian Motoring press.

    I mean, when Drive say the following, wtf would they know?:

    Or maybe we could just look to the last time this happened in Jan 2005 when it went from 15% to 10%. I mean, the retail prices didn't drop 5% at that point either, but apparently forum members here know better, so I think everyone should just read these forums instead of believing everyone that actually makes a living doing this stuff!
