I think there was a thread (by an ex-salesman) on how to get a good deal. Look it up. Many good tips in there.
Do your research to know what is the price you are happy with (reasonable of course). And be strong when negotiating (they can smell your weakness).
Some additional tips:
1. Bring a partner (your spouse maybe) to act as the devil's advocate (the negative voice). That gives you negotiating power as they have the satisfy a second person that influences the purchase - you, I assume are already smitten with the car.
2. Go at the end of the month or end of quarter and be prepared to sign on the sales contract on the spot if you get the right price. Dealers/salesperson have numbers to meet at the end of month and quarter. They are more willing to sell to meet the numbers (if they don't meet a certain number there is some downside for them for e.g. the discount rate they get from VW australia is probably dependent on volume).

Just drooling over these high-res photos on my desktop... and a couple more questions have come to mind:
- On the steering wheel, what do the little "phone" and "microphone" buttons do if you don't have Bluetooth?
- The four buttons in front of the gear lever: what is the second from the right, that has a "P" on it?
- Do all GTIs have a "comfort" and "sport" suspension setting?
- The cutouts in the bumpers: do all cars have the wiper & park assist cutouts, even if they don't have those options (I'm hoping not!)?
- In the US they don't get the front, thin spoiler -- do we?
Okay, so that's more than a couple. I have to do something while I wait for June...

The phone & microphone buttons will only mute the music if u don't have BT; the P button is to activate the parking sensors if u have optioned them, if not it will just be a piece of hard plastic in its place and from my test drive, there are no cutouts for the sensors in the bumper if they are not optioned; and yes, I believe there is a tiny spoiler underneath the front bumper for our GTI.
Correct me if I'm wrong, I still haven't received mine yet but it won't be long...
Cheers
MkVI Golf GTI | Candy White | DSG | Leather | Bi-xenon | Sunroof | Dynaudio | Park Assist | MDI | Tint | FINALLY RECEIVED!!
Sorry, just realised I completely missed one of your questions...
The answer to that is NO, not all GTIs get the 'comfort' and 'sport' suspension settings. That only comes when u have optioned the ACC (adaptive chassis control). If not there will just be another blank false button in its place.

I merged your question into this thread as it best fits here.
I just need to clarify one of the responses from MkVIGTI. In relation to the cutouts for the 'wiper & park assist'.
The PDC (Park Distance Control) sensors are only present if Park Assist is optioned, and no cutouts are present if Park Assist isn't optioned, as MkVIGTI stated.
But the other cutover which you're referred to as a 'wiper' cutout is actually the popup headlight 'washer' which sprays water onto the headlight cover to remove dirt when you have Bi-Xenons. The washer cutout is present regardless of whether you option Bi-Xenons or not.
Holy Crap, thats just what happened to me when I spoke to my local dealer, Except instead of printing a contract, he gave me a price of what I wanted but without DSG and without bixenons by "accident."
All I wanted was to know if I could get: MDI, Bi-xenons, DSG and MAYBE the Dynaudio Premium audio to go under 45k, and he did... until he said "I forgot the lights and DSG" effectively adding 3.5k to the price... Kinda hurt cause I was pretty much only wondering if it was possible to get something close to 10% off the price (which with my calculation was 9.4% in terms of what I was asking) And since the price was only 1k from the list price (including onroads) I thought I was being mistreated.
Being 25 and I normally get side swipped by dealers who think I probably cant afford the cars that I want to look at. Kinda getting tired of being called "tiger" and "you're a big boy, you dont need to talk to your dad" comments comming from salespeople... I was a salesperson too in my teen years, I at least know a bit more about respect. Hope it turns out well for you hooba.
