yeah, agreed SF- I"ll go the sensibly optioned GTI @48k and look forward to the mk7 R in 3 years when the lease is up
I am no expert but wearing the the hat of a buyer in 3 years time with having paid circa $53K for a GTI you will want top dollar, a buyer will be wanting low ball price with whatever options are available. If you are going to pay that much drive away the R option is going to be a better one.. there is nothing to go by at this point but I would hazard a guess the R will hold a higher value amount if you were going to spend that much.

Pm on way
My car was $44,500 drive away for my 11.5 5dr, DSG, 18 detroits, Bluetooth, RVC, MDI, tint and Bi-Xenons with DRLs. So I reckon with MDI and Bluetooth standard now you could possibly do better on price. If I was you I'd wait until June when you'll get free on roads. I reckon 50k should be possible.

Go with Slaven. I flew up from Melbourne to buy from them and drove the car back home. They were great. gives you some idea of the customer service I received from Barloworld when they are located about a 1 minute drive from my house!

Hi folks,
I'm curious to hear opinions on the relative merits of getting a new GTI now or in August. There are driveaway deals on at present which offer savings on CTP, Dealer delivery etc, but I'm not familiar enough with the new car market to estimate whether those savings will be greater than another 2 months of release/new financial year pricing.
I ask as I'm headed overseas for 5-6 weeks from July so if I did get a car it'd be sitting unused for a couple of months so it may make more sense to wait until August.
Would someone more familiar with the vagaries of new car pricing care to weigh in?
Thanks!
The ramp up is to clear stock and get the figures up before EOFY.. I am guessing you may get some residual of old stock in August but maybe not the on roads.. If it were me I would start hunting around now getting quotes and getting the sales folk excited.. then do a deal on the Friday before the end of year..
