At the moment, with the widely advertised 2011 run out, you may be in luck. Generally, 3drs have a smaller market so can be a bit harder to move so dealers tend to discount them heavier (but is by no means less of a car compared to the 5dr - my disclaimer to avoid any abuse hurled my way!) so that is not outside the realms of possibility.
$38k-$39k is possible, as I paid $44k for mine (although it was 2011 build in 2011 - I didn't want a 2010) and I paid $44k. Taking out the 5dr & DSG cost of roughly $4k, and the additional discount for a 'year old', that would land you in that range stated.
