I am in the market for a Golf GTI 35, DSG, rest is stock.

I was offered a black one (prefer white) from Essendon Volkswagen after negotiating to $46,500 driveaway, down from $50,550. This was a straight down negotiation as I didn't qualify for a corporate discount plus they're not available on the 35's anyway.

First catch is though, I must purchase tomorrow the 31st of December as I may not be offered the same price say next Tuesday. It's a car in stock and they're offering it that price to meet the end of month target figures and hope to recuperate their profit through volume bonuses.

Second catch, must convince the wife by tomorrow as I will be driving the car 99% of the time!

What do you guys think of the price as I was initially told by another dealer that they'd be no negotiating on the GTI 35 as they're limited.

Without doing the math and/or comparing it to Corey's awesome spreadsheet, that price seems very decent for a 35 Ed (approx. 8% discount).

I don't think the 35's have flown out the door as dealers had hoped so their attitude to discounting is probably softening. Nothing wrong with the car but as discussed elsewhere in the forum, for the prices some of the dealers are asking for the 35's, people have paid the same or less for Golf R's. If there was no R in the range then I'm sure they'd get their way. Paying 46,500 for the 35 Ed makes more sense.

Good luck with the Finance Manager!

    Typical car dealer BS....

By next Tuesday, the car is already a year old and you will get a better deal....... But if they have had a bad month and need to make budget, then squeeze them more now as they want to end the year on a high. I have done so many deals for friends/family so know all the tricks of the trade, and I tell you there are some dirty deeds done dirt cheap in the motor industry.

The thing is they would do the stock gti in dsg for $44000 so only a difference of $2.5k which I think is a no brainer considering you get a more powerful engine plus xenons plus this and that...

Out of those two the 35 is better value. I'd have to be offered the stock gti in dsg for ~$41000 which I would then take up but doesn't seem like they'd do it at that price.

Just got back from Bayford VW in Epping (VIC) who were willing to get me a white ED35 from Canberra transported to Melbourne, DSG, rest is stock for $46000 driveaway.

This works out to be around the same price of $46700 for the black from Essendon VW as it is extra to get it in a colour other than white.

    What do you guys think?

That'd be an awesome price if you can get it. Based on Corey's spreadsheet-o-matic I make that a 16% discount which is huge.

Are you in Sydney? I was offered 46,500 for a stock 5 door, DSG with Dynaudio from Chatswood Classic Clowns. They wouldn't even honour their phone quote of $45,000. Naturally I walked.
