Just a quick look: I assume they will all sell for 45990 (excluding options)

    *sigh*

You're missing the point. If he buys one for $45,990 in VIC, then he'll have to pay another $2,033.90 in stamp duty, registration, ctp, and plates, when he gets back to QLD. Plus whatever the costs of getting the car from VIC to QLD are. Meaning the $45,990 means nothing, because it won't help him.

Dealer's have a "registration clerk" that goes to the local motoring authority to register the car, collect plates, and pay the stamp duty on behalf the customer. A dealer in VIC can't send their clerk to QLD etc...

Yes, of course. You mentioned this in post 1242 and others mentioned various dealerships in other states following that. But this is all follow DoggieHowser's search. There's no point him "saving" $1000 on what he's already negotiated to purchase from other state, only then to have to pay $500+ for shipping and another $2000+ for his state's duties.

Hey guys - about to go shopping for a GTI this weekend coming up. I'm in no big rush so can afford to wait for a MY12 order car if that will work out cheaper than going for something in stock.

Had a read through this thread and I'm thinking the following should be achievable with a $48,000 budget:

3 Door Golf GTI in Candy White
    - DSG
    - 18" Detroits
    - Vienna Leather
    - Sunroof
    - RVC
    - Bluetooth (standard on MY12)
    - MDI (standard on MY12)

At least I hope so! Will let you guys know how I go soon.

Yep! Don't forget about asking for European plates (just standard content). They are $495 instead of $30.60, but should be achievable with that target

as an example, the best price i got in nsw for my gti was about $45k no negotiation, i hung up on bill buckles.
i called barloworld glen waverly on the recommedation of milos, they gave me $40660 drive away, but took the rego and stamp duty etc off which was about $1700.
the car arrived by car carrier, with no plates but with a trade permit that allowed me to drive to the rta and get my blueslip. however, nsw rego, ctp and stamp duty ended up being a little more than the vic version.
doesnt matter, its done and cheaper than getting it from nsw.

Do watch out for the cars in stock right now - this promotion of driveaway with free on road costs (to be delivered by 30 June) seems to be on the majority of 2010 build cars (tell tale sign the old DSG shifter). I haven't seen too many 2011 build cars in dealers yet - I imagine they are holding them back until the 2010 build cars are sold. In any event, I negotiated mine in Jan and got the 2011 build car - dealers in Brisbane seem to 'con' unsuspecting people and they take a 2010 car without knowing that 2011 cars are here.

I went to Australs yesterday and saw a half dozen GTIs with 5k or so off the RRP - but, surprise surprise, all were 2010 build cars which have been lying around for months on in now. I am sure they will say - "if you don't take this car, don't expect the $5k discount and wait about 5-6 months". Typical Austral Bulls*^t.....
