They must have plenty available because they are unwilling and to rude to sell a car.
I have a theory on this - dealers sold out of all their popular stock (i.e. 5dr DSG with the right colour, spec) and had a whole lot of other cars unsold.. Now, with the 2011 shipment just arrived, they need to clear the old ones in colours no one really wants (i.e Austral has two Silver GTIs 5dr DSG) and will tell all sorts of stories around 'it will take 6-9mths to order unless you take this one here'. Sales 101 if you ask me... Unless of course you know the tricks of the trade and how dealers can swap cars, look at what is coming into stock etc... (which the average punter does not know)...

Australs are so busy on weekends that they all walk past you and couldn't give a stuff whether you deal with them or not I find...

Every dealer has wankers working for them. I walked into Austral with 15 minutes to go and the sales person said your too late, we have locked up all of the cars.
I walked in a few weeks later and bought a car from someone else in the dealership. It was funny to see the look on the original sales guys face when he was trying to work out if I was a previous lead of his.
Another experience I had at NMG was the sales guy taking me for a test drive, and as we were pulling out of the driveway another one of his leads turned up so he ditched me and sent another guy on the test drive. He lost a sale because of that.
PM me if you want a few names of who to talk with.
I only went with Austral as they had the car/colour/options combo I wanted coming on a boat this week.
Everyone else in Brisbane tried to sell me the same car, but had to get it from their "sister" dealership.
The sales person at Austral said that everyone tries to promise cars from other dealerships. This discussion started after I signed the contract, and I mentioned that the other places I called that day tried to promise me the same car. This guy said there is no way they would be giving up allocated stock so early or even during a free onroads sale. Any other time of the year no worries if it was spare stock.

Bottom line... Brisbane dealers (particularly Austral) are too arrogant now and don't give a rats a$$ whether you buy from them or not. They are the new 'Mercedes" dealers for sheer arrogance. Audi Brisbane not much better too.

I guess 70-80% of the population happily put up with it as long as they get the car. I went to the Coast and got superior service and have recommended all my clients/friends there too. Better pricing to boot too!

From what I can gather the dealers can sell any current stock OR stock that will be able to be delievered to the customer by the end of June. So if a car is available on a boat they will dock early enough for you to get the car then it is part of the nationwide sale promotion.

What do you guys think about purchasing a MK6 GTI with an aftermarket exhaust - avoid? It's a private car.

There are several good aftermarket exhausts for the MK6 GTI. Especially if it's a DP or TBE, it would be in conjunction with an ECU flash and should be quite zippy. If you're talking 2nd hand, make sure you get a thorough inspection to make sure it hasn't been thrashed though

there r 2 ways to look at this, either its a bonus, especially if its a brand name like apr, and the car has low km, in immaculate condition and the owner is a member here that knows a lot about the gti, or it can be a negative, if the exhaust is some rubbish ebay copy with poor welds and the car looks trashed, as corey mentioned,
it depends. ive bought cars with aftermarket exhausts, and ive had no issues. take it for a drive and see how u like it

The Golf GTI 5 Door DSG has an RRP of $42,990
There is currently a "free onroads" promotion on which may or may not apply to that model, and if it does apply, it'll take off the approximately $4290 in VIC onroads to give you a discount of ~9% - which is not bad work for not having to negotiate. But to get that car to $41000... well, that'd require achieving a discount of ~6280 or ~13.28%. I'm just not sure that is possible on an unoptioned GTI. Whilst we see % discounts of that magnitude every now and then with highly optioned GTI's, especially where their "onroad RRP" has gone into the LCT territory and for every $1 removed is another 33% discount from the LCT, you'd be very hard pressed to get that on the base model.
