Put a deposit down on a black 35 (DSG, Jacky trim) about two weeks back. Initially opted for the dark grey metallic wheel option but the dealer (Barloworld at Five Dock) called me a few days later with the news that it isn't looking like any of these wheels are coming into the country at this stage, despite the option being mentioned on the presser. Wasn't too put out by that if I'm honest - saving myself some money up front, and I was always going to look at alternatives after the novelty had worn off anyway. I was told the black/tartan combination was no problem, which seems to match the info ajdean came across regarding paint/option combinations.
Exciting times for both of us mate!! My dealer said they definitely were getting the dark grey wheels in, but I wasn't a fan at all.

I'm stepping up from a VX Commodore Wagon that I've had since I was 18, so I won't know myself with these new set of wheels!

Out of the box, a great audio set up for all types of music, and radio.

This is a nice surprise as the car I traded had an Alpine/JL Audio set up.

after originally ordering a GTI ..and be happy with our order/price..I now am glad that i am not getting it.. i thought the 35 edition was the go.. however the prices was $49k not negotiable.. and we are now driving away in a 5door my12 R for a touch under $52k.. it makes me wonder..why doesnt everyone just jump up to the R? you kinda get alot more of a car for your money? .. unless im missing something (ive never owned a golf before so I dont know the sentimental value GTI owners have - I have only had STI's etc..) ..I just think for 2k more the R is the better option?

    1) You are correct in every way

Two different cars, heaps of threads comparing the two on this forum, I personally prefer the GTI over the R for various reasons irrespective of the price... Good luck & enjoy!

If given a choice, I too would buy an R over the 35 GTI. I doubt there would be much difference in the driving dynamics between the two having compared the R with my Pirelli.

Correct... you either have one or the other. Each is a different head unit.

    My 2 cents...

Polo Gti is the car I can afford comfortably and not lose any sleep.

Golf Gti is the car I can afford if I negotiate it down by about 10%, but I will lose sleep because I'm buying nice cars before I have a house and that dream seems to be getting further and further away.

Golf R is the car I'd love but by this stage it's beyond my price comfort zone.

Golf GTI 35 Edition is a great idea with genuine specs, but if I had the money to buy one and the dealer said 'absolutely no discount' then I'd walk down the road to the next dealership and negotiate a price on an R. If you can get one for 52k drive away and dealers are asking that or more for a 35 Edition then it's a no-brainer.

Hi ajdean - congrats on biting the bullet!

My dealer enquiries came back similar - Chatswood had a fully optioned Candy White and a Carbon no options. Brookvale had black manual no options plus a Candy White. However the Candy at Brookvale had Nav and Sunroof yet no leather trim seats!!?

Also i've herd there could be news very soon re release date : )

Purely a budget thing for me. The 35 is sub-50 (just) and is already right on the limit I set myself. R with DSG would be 54’ish. I'd love one, but I can't/won't stretch the budget that far. The 35 is a nice middle ground in pretty much every respect.

Abandoning the Sydney shoebox dream for the time being so I can justify the expense, but this one will have to last.

Guys, a question regarding fluids. I know it's good practice to check them regularly, but coming from a car that required absolutely nothing outside of regular servicing (shorter service intervals), is there anything specific I'll need to keep an eye on?
