Hi mate, as per the MK6 Index Thread there is already an existing GTI 35 Edition thread which I've merged your thread into.
There are lots of opinions on the 35 Edition here...
hey everyone,
my golf gti is still on order and im considering changing the order to a 35 edition? its 3 grand more but has 173kw and is a detuned R engine? i think its worth it.

pplate_gti,
Mate, it depends! Did you order any extra options for ur GTi? If you did, what will it cost for a 35th GTi with all those options? That is one point you can consider, may be! And it is only 0.3 of a sec faster then a regular GTi.
I will stick with regular GTi (but that's me).
Cheers,

I don't see any downsides in the ED35, sure it's a bit more expensive but you get xenons, R tails, 18" wheels and a higher output motor. The GTI Adidas just had visual upgrades and people were snapping them up so if it's true that there's only 200 ED35 coming to Australian shores I would definitely buy one over the regular GTI.

Wouldn't the 35 suffer from similar or worse lag to the R being the same motor? I think the STD GTI has more than enough power and torque on the road. If you plant the right foot there is no problem losing traction in 1st and 2nd gear.
APR retuned though not giving huge amount of extra go in stage 1 and 2, the shift of the power and torque curve is the biggest benefit. But then .....how much power do you need? If you are going to the track, fair enough, but on the road? How long do you want to keep your license for, how much have you got for the fines.
And as stated on here, who is going to notice a fraction of a second in acceleration? I personally will not be redlining my GTI, there is no need for WOT on the road IMO. But each to their own.
I think the GTI as stated in this forum by others is a "fun" car to drive. You don't have to go from 0-100 in under 4 seconds to have fun. The GTI is a well balanced fun car to drive. It is not a boy racer and is definitely refined and a nice place to be.
As for the 35.....I don't like the wheels. I don't think the lag of the older engine would be worth the extra 0.3 seconds and few killerwasps. And talking kw and nm is all just talk, all just figures, but if it makes you feel better to be able to say you have a couple extra then fair enough. It's a bit like the whole inches discussion huh?
I think the 35 may go either way with resale also as some won't want the older motor and lag, some won't like the wheels etc etc,
Anyhow. Just my opinion
