Hi Mate. This was a while ago so I can't remember. Very jealous of your ride!
I'm an Eastwood local so if you ever need valet parking...

Haha I feel the same way sometimes. I don't rate myself as a negotiator but I can't even get remotely close to the prices people have negotiated on base GTIs. I don't get call backs either!
Yeah - there you go! Exactly my point: this is what annoys me about Canberra stealers. There's only 2 of them so not much choice. Used to be worse when there was only one of them...
Not sure what to do, at $46 - even $47-$48K I would take it.
No other dealers (Melbourne or otherwise) can take the car off Lennock as it has been registered already... so I can't even call another to pinch it off them.
Thanks for that.
EDIT: Also just curious, what did you end up getting (and why you knocked back the ED35 @ $46K)?

Although I was happy with the price, it was on a Friday and I wanted to leave a refundable deposit of $500 and have the weekend to think over it as the wife wasn't fond of the idea of me financing a car worth that much at this point in time as her car's lease ends Feb 2013 and one of my machines for work also ends at the same time (around $1200 in repayments per month). The dealer principal said no, we shake hands now and the deal is done so I didn't go ahead.
So I thought better to wait.
I have been looking at carsales for GTIs and Rs (second hand, about a year old with no more than 15000kms) and it seems that it is quite difficult for these guys to sell their cars as some have been trying for 2 months and keep reducing the price without success. If you look at the classified section on this forum you will see what I mean. Why am I saying this? Not because I will be selling whatever car I buy in about a year, but rather the fact that I think it is better to purchase one that is about a year old for much much cheaper than RRP if you are not in a hurry.
My first preference is a stock GTI with dsg but if you look, you will find a few Rs (albeit manual) for around $45k before negotiating.
Buying a new GTI ED35 for $46k or a second hand R (manual with around 5000-10000kms which is practically brand new in my books) for let's say $43k after negotiating, I would go with the R. But I am not in a rush and would hope for a desperate R seller who has a white DSG with hopefully some extras, but that would be the cream on top of the cake.
Bottom line is, if you are not in a rush, then wait. Do your research, keep an eye on whats available in the market. Who knows, I might even end up getting a second hand ED35 towards the end of the year which is a better time for me. And that, I would be very happy with.
Thanks hadrami.
Well I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the ED 35 today! They came down to $48,500 in the end & threw in iPod cable, full tank & front tints. Not as good as yours at $46K but I am happy.
To be honest, I tried calling Sydney (VW Barlo Mascot) and another dealer in Queensland but neither could come down near $48,500 let alone $46K! That made me feel a bit better about it in the end... well that's what I am telling my self anyway!
Should get it in the next day or so.

Very impressed with the car, goes very well! (to put it mildly) - picked up yesterday.
Was happy with the Lennock experience (in the end) too.
I want to swap the RCD510 unit for a Nav one, I was quoted around $3500 (estimate) for this? Any idea how much I can sell the current one for and where? Will do it if the "changeover" is a bit better than $3500.
Also thinking of getting park sensors as well - estimated at around $800 - thoughts?
