Went there to buy a GTI today and saw this... but they wont budge on the price at $49800 Driveaway (and the car is now technically a "demo" with 150kms or so on it, and registered - so not even "brand new"). Zero options.
The GTI they quoted me was $44800 (basically RRP and no on roads/tax) for: 17 inch, CW, DSG, MDI/BT, 4 dr, Park Assist, Tint which was $5K less than above. There is more than $5K of value in the GE I guess...
Anybody care to give me their opinion (I know I have got the jist of this thread... don't get the GE get an R... but I like it!). Besides I can't get an R in DSG, 4 dr for less than $55K (in Canberra anyway).
I will look interstate (no other 35s in Canberra) to see if I can do any better. Didn't come away with the GTI either as I got distracted by the 35! Have also tried Gerald Slaven to see if they can get their hands on one for a bit less; they will get back to me.
Also thinking about getting the Adidas, few on CarSales for around $40K... for less than 15,000km cars - like all the extras (LED, Xenon...), but just not the seat pattern which I can either cover or live with. Comments anyone?

GTI BY & MY 12.5 - 5 Door
DSG, Carbon Steel, Bi-xenon, 18inch Detroit, ACC, Sunroof, RVC, Leather, Dynaudio & Window tint. GOT IT
Thanks first post on the forum... long time lurker!
Yes I did try GS in Belco (I edited my original post to include this while you were typing) - no EDs there. And the GTI prices they were quoting were on par with Lennocks (ie RRP prices for driveaway, so no onroads or tax etc).
Bit disappointed really, looking at what some other people have paid for both ED and standard GTI
Sorry, to clarify GE = ED (Golf Edition 35). May have got the lingo wrong!
Can anybody give me any negotiation tips? Not sure what to haggle on?

I think 150 Kays is still considered new, a demo has to pass 1500 kays and then I think it is 3000 to be second hand. If you like the ED 35 then that is all that matters, dont let forum bull**** sway you from what you like.
The challenge it seems you face is the cost v value, the GTI sounds like it is in your price range the ED 35 is a stretch and the R is potentially not in picture.
The GTI is a fantastic car and bang for buck unparralelled, the ED 35 has the R engine in it and of course all the ED 35 jewelry so it is a value proposition above the GTI if your intent is to start modding. The conversation about getting an R over a ED 35 is more of a conversation around those who can splash a bit more coin and go the full monty not that the Ed 35 is a poor choice.
Remember the ED 35 is a limited release so it is hardly surprising that the dealer wont budge cause he will find someone to part with the coin. My only advice is get what you really want even if it is a stretch or you will always wished you had.
Current Ride: MY 16 Daytona Pearl Grey Audi S3- Performance Pack 1, Sunroof and Driver assist
Can the Edition be had with Park assistance? I saw in the old brochure that R can't but GTIs can. Any idea why not? Has that changed with MY2012?
Wife likes that.
The R can't get PArk Assist or a tow bar.. both being because of AWD

Hi, I own a GTI 35 Edition and wanted to get the park assist fitted, the dealer did it for me but I had to go back over 6 times and it still didn't work so I ended up removing it completely and they replaced the bumpers for me as well.

What time? That's my car![]()
Agree 100%... I realise that 150kms isn't much (might as well be 0 in my books), but my point was more around the dealer margin... as they would have got some money out of depreciation/tax for having a demo car... And so he had even more room to pass on some of this and move the car; but chose to turn away a serious buyer. Other dealers were able to sell the GE's for $47K without resorting to selling it as a "demo". Besides the car has been sitting there for a month or so...
Couldn't have summarised my situation any better if I tried! But just to add: it is not purely because of the money, but also because of my perceived enjoyment value from that money.
Cool thanks for that. Yeah, I have no inclination to mod at this stage.
Yes exactly, I do *want* the ED 35, and would have stretched that extra $5K if it wasn't for the darned forum.Knowing that people have paid $46-$47K for the same car, I just couldn't pull the trigger.
Thanks for your comments, appreciate them
46.5 for a DPB, DSG was the quote I had, before I paid 41 for my GTI...
can be done![]()
