I looked on HSV site. The black series gets upgraded 20 inch wheels/tyres , bimodel exhaust and leather. Actually not bad for $4000.

The point being made is not of value add on proposition but differentiation.. to be special you dont just want a badge you want horses under the bonnet

You need to change your sig to "Viagra on AWD" I mean those GTI folk think the same thing and there needs to be differentiation or you could be smashed in the GTI v R thread
Nah the fact that RB is the only colour WE win hands down. Putting AWD in my sig would just be rubbing it in!! Oops maybe I've started something.
Golf R, Rising Blue, 5 Door, DSG and some extra fruit.
    Viagra on 4 wheels !!

VS the overly refined EA888 which doesn't have the above and makes the current GTI as boring as as Corolla/bat poo to drive.
Gotta say, I feel a bit sorry for you triode if you reckon refinement makes a car boring! You'd miss out on enjoying a raft of fantastic performance cars that can also play smooth and quiet... including the MkVI GTI.

    Ditto.

If I wanted raw, I'd stick with my old Evo which I finally replaced with a smoother R35

But I guess I'm too old these days to do my GTR any justice and besides with the cops being on the watch all the time in the few weeks I've been driving in Oz, I think a smooth daily drive with the odd burst of power on tap is probably a better buy.

What is the point of driving a car that doesn't allow you to enjoy the sensation of speed at legal speeds?
A friend and Golf MKV GTI owner used to have an AMG SL55 and he says that while the performance in a straight line was alot better in the Merc, he enjoys driving his MkV GTI a whole lot more. The SL55 was so smooth and refined that travelling at 100 was like travelling at 60. Boring.

Have a look at this video to see what Jay Leno thinks about the (born again) Morgan 3-wheeler. Take note of what he says just before he puts in his order for one (4.11min/secs).

That is what driving is all about. Not cossetted/entombed in silky smooth car - what is the fun in that?

If you to drive a smooth and boring car, you are better off getting a Lexus LS350.

    Adam,

I guess, you would be one of those people that would detune and dynamat (to silence the viceral noise) of a McLaren F1 Supercar so that you can enjoy it's performance in silky smooth refinement.

The ironic thing is that MKVI GTI owners defending the positives of how refinement is a plus and then install a catback to make it sound more aggressive.
