    Golf GTI Drive Side Mirror

Really annoyed, while I was at work today... someone decided to clobber my driver side mirror good and hard.

The mirror broke, housing snapped, the body coloured cover is screwed... turn blinker still works... the power adjust sorta works. I found the side mirror totally pushed forward with the mirror dangling off. Sticky tape is doing the job for the minute, but its painful!

Long story short I figure I'm up for a new side mirror and I'm obviously anxious to get some idea of cost for this component (wont get an idea of price till Monday becoz my dealers parts section is close till then).

Can any1 provide a ball park figure for my own sanity till then.

    Hmm - that totally sucks.
I had that happen on an old Toyota I had 8 years ago. Fortunately I knew who did it and got them to pay for it. Fortunately for them, their neighbor worked in a Toyota dealership and so got a hefty discount. I dont even know how much it cost.

I do know that for Toyota at least, their side mirrors just come primed for painting, so a smash repairer needed to match the paint and spray the mirror cover. I'd warrant a guess that it'd be the same situation for VW.

Without knowing the extent of the damage you're probably looking at around $350 to $450 including painting. Allow another $100 for the dealer to fit the new mirror.

I've done this twice over the years to separate EF Ford Falcons parked on the side of the road. Both times were on narrow streets avoiding oncoming traffic not giving me enough room for two cars to pass by one another. Better take out a mirror than have a head on. First one cost me $160, second was more like $200. But they were both from wreckers. I imagine double for a genuine part.

Not bad, I was sorta warming myself to the $1k range fully installed and painted for a whole new side mirror.

It seems there is a cover on the underside where the unit gets taken off, and a new one goes on. I doubt it will come in pieces i.e. trim, cover, adjustable pads (for mirror) etc.

    Thanks guys.

Exactly 2 weeks ago on saturday I reversed out the garage & my passenger wing mirror hit the side so hard the painted casing came off. I was sleepy at the time of reversing & didn't do my usual checks. when reversing I have to reverse around the bend & didn't have my wits about me.

LED lens broke and tiny piece of the housing (black section connected to the door) also snapped.

What i found is you have to ring around. The dealer I purchased from quoted $768.

I rang around some VW repairers & other dealers... I eventually got quoted $401.

It's around $130 in parts, then $120 to paint, then $160 in labour in the workshop. (you have to paint cos the top comes unpainted in black).

If the LED's & motor are ok, then this is likely what you would need to pay.

I was expecting pricing to be standard, but it's not - so ring around.

    Good luck

Try the wreckers too, might be worth trying some Melbourne ones too as there seem to be a few golfs written off due to the hail, some will get repaired but some may get broken up if they are too bad.

Very reasonable. I'd be keen to know who did the work (via PM or on here)

    Thanks.

Barloworld Mascot. I think Chatswood are good value too and might have been around $30 cheaper, but they got back to me a little late and I already put a deposit down.

I'm getting it fixed end of the month.... had to wait for parts to arrive.

Ye i will second that quote. My Corolla mirror cost $600 to replace so i would imagine more for a VW?
