My dealer contacted me a few weeks ago indicating that my GTI had been built. When I got the VIN and entered it into the shipment tracking it indicated that the ship had been booked on 5th January, loaded on the 16th and left on 17th. I have been tracking it since and it is now on it's way to Fremantle. It is due to arrive at Port Kembla on 26th Feb. Give another two weeks for customs, detailing etc. I expect to see it second week of March.
Getting excited!!!

im starting to lose hope.
first it's may...then it'll probably get to sept or even october.
im gonna prolly need to buy a car between this time...they'll just make up their stories as they go along.
Well - I'm not sure it's them 'making up their stories'. It's like with many things in this world, you can only give an estimate based on the information you have. A VW dealer here in Australia doesn't necessarily know that some government in Europe has put an incentive scheme which pushed VW to the largest carmake in the world all of a sudden for 1 month and therefore the factory was about to get twice the amount of orders that they expected for example (this did happen btw, November VW shot to number 1 due to a Euro incentive scheme).
VW's suppliers might not only supply to VW but to other manufacturers - all of a sudden there is a shortage of a component required... there are lots of issues that can arise.
So as information comes to hand, they'll update and readjust their forecasts.
It's not just the car industry - many industries have this situation happen continually. Whenever you purchase something 'custom to order', you have to realise that there are variables.
It's just like building a house vs purchasing a 'previous completed house'. One you can customise as much as you want, but build time will be subject to numerous things, including the weather, another you can't really change much since it's already finished, but you can move in almost immediately.
If waiting isn't suitable for you - then why are you custom ordering a car? If waiting is suitable, then try not to stress, relax, the wait is going to be a long one, but in the end it'll be worth it.![]()
my recommendation is ask them for a VIN number and if not when you can get the VIN number for you car. so then you can track it yourself. and know how it's progressing. my dealer said early march is when i can get my VIN number.
