I don't think that's right.

Yeah, but you're missing the real point. I got my car now!!!!!!!!!!! That 4 night wait was murder.
Talk to your accountant; within the ATO and forums such as the CPA association they have had discussions around the interpretation of this tax ruling as applied to lease contracts, especially Chattel Mortgages; Im not over the minute detail but the general thought was that a contract had not been entered into between the finance company and the provider of the equipment until the car had arrived and given that you cant have a financial stake in the asset udner a lease/chattel mortgage, if tested your contract is basicly null and void at the time of purchase as the finance company enters into the agreement at that point in time. i.e. you never had a valid contract as you never had any intention to be the owner, remember you dont own the vehicle (asset) until the end of the lease contract (assuming you want to buy it out)
Look, I want to stress im not an accountant at all nor a lawyer, so DO NOT RELY ON MY ADVICE - TALK TO YOUR ACCOUNTANT; I just know that my accountant is as "flexible" as they come and he said to me "get your arse down to that dealer and get the finance company to hand over a cheque prior to December 31 at all costs"; we picked up the car December 30....
Remeber this tax ruling was never originally developed for people buying one off motorvehicles.......
Oh, none of the above applies if you (your business) is purchasing the car with cash
Very interesting!
Too late now though. Only options I would have gone for were leather and sunroof.
I'll be redoing the interior to leather at the end of the year for about the same dollars as the factory option so only lose the heating aspect. Not worried about the elec adjusting either![]()
From what i was told by my accountant and the dealer, and from the ATO website, though i cant be bothered diggint it up, as long as the item is ordered before 31 december and a "significant" deposit paid, (dealer - $2,000) and delivery taken by the end of 201 then you are eligible for the bonius, which on a $50k car is about $7000 off your tax bill at the end of the tax year.

I ordered a candy white GTI five door with DSG on 31 December (also thanks to Mr Rudd), the car had a week 1 2010 build. I checked with the dealer this week and he said that it has been built and is in transit somewhere in Germany (? I think) and should be on a ship sometime next week. I would hope that the dealer would not be telling me porkys, because I have a lease that is coming to an end in late Feb (not I am expecting the car by then).
Good luck GTI's apparently were built week 51 2009 and next lot is week 6 2010. chances are you are a 2009 build.
