Thread: Golf BlueMotion and BlueMotion Package

Hi Neil, picked up car yesterday after lengthy (financed) paper work and short run down on the operation of the car. They gave me a full tank of fuel and bunch of flowers for my wife. I left Chatswood dealer at 3.30 pm, zeroed the trip computer and joined the lovely traffic on Pacific Hwy. The initial L/100 sat around 5 until I settled into the pace of the traffic, I was averaging only 20km/hr and after a few kilometers it was reading mid 4's and by the freeway was high 4's. Entering the F3 on ramp saw me grab 5th gear for the first time and realise how TALL the gearing is, 1800RPM at 110km/h and just over 2grand at 120. I locked the cruise in at 110, as read on the MFD, and changed the display to watch instant L/100. Up the big dipper it sits around 7.5L/100 holding 100km and rolling over the top read less than 1 and 0 to start with. When settled into the first long flat up to and past Berowra off ramp the reading was mostly around 2-3L/100. I must say quite impressed so far but have to verify at the pump when I fill. My final reading after 78km was 3.9L/100. I would like to point out that I had already mastered short shifting the gears over last 10 years in both in my WRX and manually shifting the auto gears in Ford Territory I had owned prior. I could get 12.5L/100 Average from the Territory, no easy feat. I will be fitting a towbar at Cosmopolitan Tow-bars Botany for $590 (complete with relay protection) next week before I tow 3 dirt-bikes to Narrabri, a distance of 500km to the farm I ride at. This trip has been previously done with the WRX which uses 50L over 400km So it will be interesting to see how the Golf performs on this trip.

Blustone that is impressive 3.9 with both City and Hwy , Last night from Hornsby to Doyalson I averaged 4.4 @110 and can
only get down to 3.8/3.9 if I cruise at 70/80kph.
Will be interesting to hear how you go over the next few months and would be interested to know how your figures are
just on the Fwy. I was expecting it to show best around city and not as good on the fwy.

The best I have got, was 3.8l/100km.
Mostly, my tank averages around the 4.4l/100km. I think this figure would be better if my wife didn't drive the car. She has no concept of how to drive economically.

    Thumbs up Fuel economy

I have traveled just over 800Km now with one more trip to Sydney. The overall L/100 is reading 4.3 and a range of 300KM remains. I travel to Sydney tomorrow so should be over 1000KM total by then, will see what range I have.

    Fuel economy

The L/100 at 110Kph on flat section F3 sits around 3.1-3.3. The up hill climb from Hawksbury river at 100Kph sits on 7.5L/100.

So long time no update, the speedo no reads 96,000 KM and I have not had a tank get less than 1000 KMs.
The best range from one tank was 1,400 Km from Central Coast to Brisbane and back to Port Macquarie.
The tyres are still going, about 20% thread left, had one rear shock replaced under warranty.

Julia & I bought a Glacier Blau Bluemotion and took delivery on the 31st Dec 2012. I let Julia pick the colour, as I wanted black.

It was a 2011 model and got it for around $28000 drive away. I like it because it's different, and because of the fuel economy.

    I have done a few enhancements to it;
    Leather interior
    17" Blade wheels (from Mk 7) with 225/45 X 17 Bridgestone tyres
    RNS510
    VW Reversing Camera
    Bluetooth
    Reversing sensors
    Oettinger assisted (92Kw from 77Kw), 290Nm torque from 250Nm).

I don't fill it up until it's done a 1000Kms and have used 2SO from the start.

Completed nearly 18,000Kms to date incl 2 interstate trips, Adel to Blue Mountains & Adel to Geelong.

Towing a Camper Trailer to Geelong it used about 6.3L/100KMs. Drove from Gelong to Adelaide on 1 tank, easily!

Leave Adelaide with a full tank and no need to refuel until at least Melbourne. It's a very nice car to drive, and I still have a short shifter to have fitted to it.

Well, 4 years on! 175,000kms The Golf still gets over 1000kms every tank, first set of tyre's lasted to 120,000 (gave the Jax Tyre guy a scare). Just outside warranty I changed the fuel filter myself and introduced air into the fuel pump and it cavitated into self destruct mode which sent little metal files throughout the entire fuel system that left me with an estimated repair bill of $10,500 from VW. So I had it towed to a fuel injection specialist who found reco'd injectors (factory ones are $900 ea) he drained the fuel rail, purged the system and put a new filter in and it goes still! Cost me $2,500. So I dont touch the fuel filter now, but I do change the oil and filter after finding good site in USA for tools and parts. The motor has a more diesel knock now but I will drive it till it drops like my Sub-WRX with 350,000kms and still going. The stop start system stopped working about a year ago, must be the battery not so strong, Battery World can do them for just over $200 but I will wait till this one dies. I had one rear shock replaced under warranty but now the other is dead and rattles like a loose wheel. All in all I am happy for the most part the economy is unbelievable and the main reason I purchased, but I wont buy Golf again instead will go back to Subaru.
