Thanks guys. I am on my full license. I called the driving school and they said it only takes two hours to learn how to drive a manual @ 110 dollars(@_@). I have always wanted to drive a manual and be nice to the environment. I know I would enjoy a GTI more but a slow car is just fine. It cant be worse than a Getz right? As my current car is a damaged 1997 Ford Falcon, I think whatever golf I get I will enjoy it. I am thinking about test drive a normal golf then use private fleet to bargain a deal? Would that be a good approach? Should I rent a manual car for a few days after the driving class to practice further? I have logitech g25 for games, but I have never driven a real manual. And one last question is how to convince your wife to get a manual car...

Go do the learning course, then decide whether you need to hire a vehicle to learn.
As for the wife... the savings means she can buy more shoes (or whatever she's into, lol). But, her being able to drive the car is probably also of important. I've only had a 50/50 success in teaching girlfriends how to drive manuals. Some people just aren't cut out to coordinating enough things at once.

Can you get it with the 7 spd DSG?

The auto stop/start was OK, but on cold mornings and with headlights on it was only able to use it occasionally. I wonder how useful that feature is going to be in summer as no engine = no air-con.

I averaged 55mpg for a mix of motorway and city driving and I wasn't driving for economy either.
    Only available in 5-speed manual.

Also, the air-con runs off the battery. If the battery power gets too low, the engine will automatically start to keep the air-con (and any other systems) going.

I did the training class and went to the dealership to have a look at the blue motion. I stall the instructor's car a lot of times. Most of the time he said I let off the clutch too soon or not enough gas. I find it quite difficult to do a hill start. With golf's HSA, will it make it easier to start on the hill. BTW, I have decided to buy it. It looks quite nice.

Oh, i forgot to mention the dealer did not give me any further discount $29400 for the black one with the drive away deal or 31k with the corporate plus discount.. He said I have saved a lot already. Apparently, they don't offer 10% discount anymore and could not combine the deals. is it bull**** or what? I am going to use private fleet and was thinking about 27k? Am I too greedy? Anyone has a good dealer that can be recommended to me?did any one got one of these?

The HSA means you won't roll backwards for up to 2 seconds after you've taken your foot off the brake to put it on the clutch. It just means you don't need to use the handbrake. You're still likely to have issues until you get better experienced with the manual.

As for the price. You do realise you're already saving more than 10% on the "free onroads" right? You also realise that they're not free, that the dealer and VGA still need to pay the various companies and gov bodies right?

Yes, you're being too greedy, lol.

Hill Start Assist is good in theory, though you need to get the right balance of accelerator and clutch, too many revs without the clutch, and the car will roll back (even with HSA), to much clutch and not enough revs and you stall, would recommend learning handbrake starts as well, as I find parking on a hill to be much less nerve racking if I'm in control of the brake when the spot is a bit squishy

You're definitely not greedy wanting to save what is probably your hard earned cash, although trying to get 10% off the free-onroads deal seems a bit optimistic.

You may not be able to reduce the price you pay by much, but you should easily be able to get some accessories included. I got a price quoted at about 28500 for the car with metallic paint, MDI, space saver spare (doesn't come with a spare), mats, boot liner, cargo net. 2 dealers willing to negotiate a bit were Campbelltown and Parramatta. PM me if you want specifics.

That sounds all right. Would be nice to get to 28k thought. I would want a parking sensor.

Yes. I am going to rent a car for two days then make another assessment in terms of whether I can surely drive a manual. Do you think I can still get the same deal after October? I think the car I drove was somehow faulty. First, the clutch is very heavy, very hard to press in, when I get to the friction point before I accelerate, the car stall even on flat surface. The instructor said I move my left feet. But I think I only moved it by 1 to 2mm. Then he drove his own car and tried to show me how he drives. He stalled the car too.... On a flat surface...Now my parents know I want to buy a car with stick. they all said no, saying it's not safe and I should think about the family... I am really confused now...
