Cya... Is this the real reason? or couldn't you sell off your Peugeot for a reasonable price

As a 25yr old Accountant perhaps you don't really understand yet that sometimes a car is an emotional purchase. You buy a Golf R for the performance, handling and good value. Not so you can worry over residuals and resale value.

Even if you were a mechanic and knew how to customise these things.. For $40k over the base car, you could exceed the performance and look of the Golf R without much trouble!!

This is a different argument to M3 and AMG models.. These are premium prices at starting base models. Having the Golf now sit side by side with the Corolla, this is a mass market, all in, sales grab. The car won't be anything special and that will most certainly put downward pressure on all Golf models come trade in.

There are so many great cars coming out over next 12 months, I am more inclined to look elsewhere now. The Range Rover Evoque is right up my alley... That will be money well spent.

So you're cancelling your order because Golfs will now be more common than before? You feel this somehow cheapens a Golf R? You think the 77TSI and R are sufficiently similar that the R won't hold its own?

Nothing about the Golf R has changed - it's still the same classy, high-performance good-value proposition it was yesterday. If you feel that the introduction of the 77TSI is going to affect resale of the R that much, I'd suggest you should consider purchasing a few gold blocks, and a 1990 VN Commodore to carry them round in.

Honestly, this sounds (to me personally) akin to refusing to date a hot girl because she's got a shorter, poorer sister.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest. Happens with almost every model. C200 -> AMG C63, 525i > M5....
A 77TSI might still be a Golf, but it will have bugger all features and be as gutless as as an excel running on 2 cylinders. Doesn't make a 118TSI, GTI or R any less appealing to the respective buyers.

Fark it, I don't want my R either. I'm gonna buy something for $5k and spend $50k making it the most awesome performance car EVER

    LOL you muppet.

Can I just add here the more cars Volkswagen sell in Australia the more production slots get allocated to factorys to get our Right hand Drive ADR ruled, Volkswagens here faster without 9+ month waiting lists, which in tail makes the cars cheaper cause we are no longer a backward upside down country driving on the wrong side of the road... This will make customers and dealers happier to don't we think? This segment is perfect if your after a frugel non hybrid safe car to drive on the road well under the 50k Prius in fact half the price lol!!! State Goverments for instance???? (our tax dollars) Blue motion for next year will also be a massive plus. We can be green without being electric.

I feel sorry for you dude, this has happened right after Ed Hardy Australia went broke and they had to close a heap of stores. Your life must really suck at the moment.

Ok guys, whilst personal opinions are fine, please keep ensure the comments are not "antagonising" or "provoking unrest", and please make sure that they're not personally ridiculing or attacking another person's opinion. Infractions will be issued if this occurs.
