How will this affect Polo TSI sales ?
I've been looking at both (Polo 77TSI and Golf 90TSI) but today after hearing this I would go straight to the Golf 77TSI purely because of the badge.
Still waiting for the Amarok though
Not that it matters, but wonder how they'll badge it, plain silver TSI on the back? Give the 90TSI a red I to differentiate??

I made that comment after reading the OP's link and seeing this line in the article:Thinking about it now, it would make sense to me that the additional equipment that the article refers to is probably the changes to the specifications of the Trendline models that came into effect with the MY11 refresh, as per Dermot's post here.Instead, the 90TSI model (90kW/200Nm) will receive additional equipment to justify the price difference between the two cars.
With the arrival of the 1.2 turbo Golf, the 1.4 turbo Golf (previously the price leader at $24,990 plus on road costs) gains alloy wheels, cruise control and a multi-function steering wheel while maintaining its price.

It gains a few more things... as per the link in my previous post directly above yours....
I had a Golf R on order... Now canned that... I would not pay $60k+ for a Corolla, no chance in hell! So same principle applies to the Golf. Loses the appeal and the niche of a quality euro brand.
Even if you were a mechanic and knew how to customise these things.. For $40k over the base car, you could exceed the performance and look of the Golf R without much trouble!!
This is a different argument to M3 and AMG models.. These are premium prices at starting base models. Having the Golf now sit side by side with the Corolla, this is a mass market, all in, sales grab. The car won't be anything special and that will most certainly put downward pressure on all Golf models come trade in.
There are so many great cars coming out over next 12 months, I am more inclined to look elsewhere now. The Range Rover Evoque is right up my alley... That will be money well spent.
