You can't bypass the immobiliser on a VW.
Not even the dealership's equipment can do that without obtaining the car's immobiliser pin from the database in Germany.
Apologies in advance if I have posted this in the wrong sections but does anyone know if $30 device available online blamed for spike in car thefts in Queensland | News.com.au has been successfully used on an mk6 golf? Obviously I do not want one to steal a golf mk6 but I have one myself and am a bit concerned.
I've just sent an email enquiry to VWA if we should be worried about it.

Actually I can buy a tool and the associated software package that will do just this, its not cheap though and its from a very high end respected provider that I use for other hardware. It also allows me to reprogram things like the dash mileage etc. Its not $30 though closer to S2K with the options and the database is online to stop theft and cloning by the Chinese. I doubt if these $30 tools will get round the VAG immo as its very tough
