If most of your driving is in town, go for the TSi or if you do heaps of highway driving you will get your monies worth out of the diesel. That's my theory anyway.

Buy what you prefer to drive... its a personal thing. I have driven both and if I go ahead I would get the diesel, especially if you are getting the DSG box. Its a nice piece of kit to drive, especially around town.
As for waiting for diesel pumps, I find its just as bad when you are using 98 all the time. Some servos still only have 95 and some only have 1 or 2 pumps with it.

I think if you want zippy performance in the suburbs, go for the TSI. That was my deciding factor. If you do more country driving or fuel economy is your priority, then the diesel makes sense.
I've noticed 98 is consistently more expensive than diesel. Even if you go with VW's 2010 recommendation of 95, I think you're still ahead at today's prices.
The fuel consumption gap can be big. I'm averaging 7.2 l/100km but I think a diesel can do in the low 6's.
I do verify the trip computer calcs at most refills and the trip computer is reasonably accurate on my car.
The only other thing that turned me off diesel is the thought of all the additional gasses in the exhaust - but I guess it isn't an issue for TDI owners and it's just a personal issue of mine.
