Golf 118TSI - Rattle on Cold Start (camshaft issue!?!)

Has anyone had noise problems with their 118 TSI engine on start-up. The noise started just before the 90000km service. I mentioned it at service time and there were no logged faults within the car management system. The noise seemed to stop for awhile so I thought it was just the oil getting thinner towards the service. The noise has since returned but it is intermitient on start-up. The dealer had the car for 10 days and replaced the Cam Shaft Positioner. The first morning I had the car back it made the noise again. I have returned the car to the dealer but it doesn't make the noise so they have said they can do nothing about it. I have recorded the noise and they have heard it but Volkswagan have said if the mechanics can't hear the noise in person there is nothing they can do about it. The noise sounds like the old tappet rattle that the older holdens use to make on start-up. Some people who have heard it start thought it was a deisel engine. Does anybody have any ideas. I thought maybe it could be a cam chain tensioner maybe!!!!! The noise has been reported before the warranty run out and I also have the extended warranty on the car.

If they replaced the Camshaft Positioner, thats the VW official solution. I chose not to solve the noise with my engine with the Positioner change. Did this instead http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...tml#post835836. The dealer won't do this as its unofficial.

Thx RW1....I said to the mechanics that it happened more on a cold start, initially it was happening all the time but when they changed the oil it stopped then returned only on morning starts then they changed the cam shaft positioner now its only on real cold mornings and it comes and goes. I'll talk to my private mechanic about this fix. I think my problem will be it will void my warranties. I've just paid $1600 for the extended warranty.

My Golf mk6 118 TSI makes a funny rattle sound, sounds like a chain. I made an audio clip of the sound here;

It happens at start up, even when warm. I can hear it from the cabin even when i have been driving, so I don't think its just a 'start up noise'.

Does that sound familiar to anyone? Is that 'normal'?
