Can't fault the customer service thus far but was hoping that I would've avoided this problem having a 2011 build.
That sucks, 2010 build here my 11. I thought it was fixed by our release dates , clearly not!! How many Kay's have you done??

Yeah I'm around 70,000km here always use shell vpower! It's not looking good, clearly it seems this engine is a damn lemon!!

So you getting an engine rebuild? Let us know how it all pans out.

    Good luck

    Hi all,
I'm Stefano. I have a GOLF MK6 with the notorius 118 TSI engine!
I'm sad to hear you in Australia have MY 11 engine failures. My car is MY11 and it was born with the 24s4 update. Today my engine has 100.000 KM with no problem.
When the car had 70.000 I executed a remap to increase power but also to increase injection and lower piston edges peak of temperature.
Reading the dedicated thread I can find the same problems and considerations of Italian forums but now we haven't a lot of MY11 failure cases to understand if the issue is definitely solved or not!
    Thanks,
    S.

I've just got my engine lamp lit. after using OBD2 reader to check the error code, it shows P0301 cylinder 1 misfire detected. my factory warranty has just ended in dec. Is it likely a spark plug issue? should I send my car to VW to check? anyone has similar experience? how much did you end up spend on fixing it?

First check or replace the coil pack. If the problem is not solved you need to do a compression test to verify if the cylinder is still good.

Yes take your care to Vw. It's just out of warranty and I'm sure they'll do a goodwill repair considering it's only 3 years old. As long as you have kept up the servicing

Hi all - we've just had an engine rebuild on our 2010 TSi. All pistons replaced as one had cracked, but not a crated in engine.
We're trying to decide whether to now keep this car with the rebuilt engine (as it's got nice specs and drives well when it's working), or does the engine still suffer from a fundamental design issue, and the rebuilt engine will also fail sooner than other less stressed engines?
I guess in the same boat as the earlier poster Alissa http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/foru...ml#post1056567

What I'm reading between the lines is that with the revised ECU, a rebuilt engine should be OK. But, there's always the issue with the DSG gearbox.

I'd just like the car to work without major failure for at least the next 4-5 years.

Got the car back today, was a rebuild. Cost was fully covered despite being out of warranty by 8 months. All Pistons were replaced and there's a 2 year warranty on the repair.

Had previously had a new timing chain tensioner fitted but following the rebuild there were timing issues so a new tensioner and chain were fitted. Could a stretched timing chain have caused the issue?
