Touche Stoney! If we wanted a less engineered car then we would have bought one. I have a stack of anecdotal evidence of other makes having engine / transmission failures etc, but unless you want to troll the other makes forums, you won't hear about them. For all the others that want to bag the VWs, go and lurk the other forums and leave us alone.

If I had to get a new car because mine kicked the bucket I'd be looking at the GTI - same great car, different engine and gearbox, more oomph (and turbo lag), but a much bigger price tag (unless I get a good 2nd hand deal again) xD.
Then the retro-fitting would have to start all over again
Previous Golf owner (MkIV) and new Golf Wagon (118TSI) owner here.
Well... after many trips backwards and forwards to a prominent VW dealer here in Melbourne the engine in our 118TSI is cactus.
Needs to be replaced.
Honestly, I am shocked at the rate of failures for this engine. But more apalled at the service from VW on this.
Would be interested to hear the thoughts of others what they have done with the car afterwards...
