    Ebo,

How may k's did your car have when you had the ECU reflash done as part of the VW service campaign earlier this year?

Also what octane fuel do you normally put in the car ( 95 or 98 ) ?

I think the problem of damaged pistons is more widespread than just the Australian spec engines. There have been a few reported piston failures in 1.4l twincharger engines in the UK and Germany. I think it is premature to say for certain the problems have been resolved by the service campaign given we are still getting failures months after the campaign was run. I will consider paying for a boroscope inspection of my cylinders and a compression test before my vehicle comes off warranty.

UK misfires reporting levels is not as pronouced as in Germany but that may be due to the 1.4TSi 160 S/Charger came to the market later than the main thrust with 2.0ltr engines and so there are fewer, therefore producing a lower number of reported failures.

This may help as a reference for you prise. It was performed on my 1.4TSi 160PS 9 months from new running the G4009 map (two maps before G5860).

Have subsequently had the 24S4 applied since November.

When I was in the UK a couple of months ago, most of the Mk6 Golfs I noticed were diesel, with lots of 90TSIs (single red "I" - so turbo only, not twincharged) and a few GTIs. I don't think I saw a single 118TSI.

Lol... we'll, you're late to the party. For the first few days after the forum crash where we lost 6 days of posts, there was an announcement about the problem. Now the announcement has reverted to the December competition

They only sell the 118kW engine in the GT model, and I imagine most buyers wanting the performance (and willing to pay the extortionate insurance premiums - no regulated CTP price!) end up plumping for the GTi.

For comparison, the 90kW engine gets you an insurance group of 17, the GT 30, and the GTi 34 (the groups go up to 50)

Unless you have a clean licence, no accidents, a big no claims bonus and are over 25 insuring anything over a group 12 is very hard (multi £'000)

Thanks for that. The misfire count on mine (logged using VCDS) is zero or close to for my car but I'm running it completely stock. The borescope video in the link seems to be similar to photos of other direct injection engines wrt the carbon build up on the rear side of the inlet valves. Oil from the PCV system has been attributed for much of the inlet valve carbonisation with direct injection engines which is a good incentive to use 504 spec oil.

The engine still had VW factory oil when the video was done. Had the intake / air filter off last week. Whole of the plumbing downstream of the oil breather pipe connection was covered in a light oil film. More than I've seen on older VW engines in good condition. Not enough to alarm though. VW factory spec ???. Since serviced with Shell Ultra AV-L 5w30 oil - 504/507 spec. So don't know which or both has caused the oil film on the intake ducting.

Traced those misfires to a engine ECU misfire algorithm problem and the way it works, a lot happier.

Post For the record another TSI engine replacement

My car has just passed 15,000km and just booked in for a service. Over the weekend the car seemed to be running a little rough , but did not seem too concerned. On the Monday norning on the way to work it started missing and the exhaust warning light came on. While idling at traffic lights the EPC light also appeared and power was almont gone.
I called the workshop and they suggested coming in for a scan to test the systems. Multiple failures were detected, the primary fault being in cylinder 1. Strangely enough they said I should drop it in for more tests but could not do it striaght away. Being concerned that the car was being damaged, I questioned if it should be driven to which they said it would not get any worse. The car ran like a dog and fuel consumption poor with the exhaust warning light now a permanent fixture.
I needed a loan car for which they organised and the car was taken in on Thursday. A phone call has now confirmed that an engine repalcement is required, as there was very little compression in the cylinder but VWA is requesting more tests (fuel mainly).
The dealer I believe Kwew this would be a requirement, but think that this is costing VW a heap of money and will check everything before a new engine is authorised.

For the record the flash update was completed on time following the recall, I have only used recommended fuel and had no other warnings.

My concern is now, with the new engine, is it less powerful than the orginal, due to chipset changes, Do I get a new engine warranty and will it happen again
