Just checked, it's the same sequence, but that's it. It disappears for about 10+sec then comes back on again except in setup screen where its on permanently.

... except for when you are stopped when the Word Setup should be at the top.
So when it disappears are you saying it replaced by blank space or replaced Audio for example? If you were in MFD and Audio suddenly displays overwriting time/gear one would suspect a problem with the Right select button.
Cars with NAV and other fancy gear have extra info displayed up there, so they will have other items in the sequence. Wonder if your instrument cluster has been coded to have NAV fitted and it is "looking" for it periodically.

I think it's a fault as the screen will basically scroll between the screen name and time. Crap!

Have you taken your car to the dealership to get the ECU update (since you have a 118TSI)? Some people are reporting that it enables the "gear change indicator" to tell you when to change up or down etc. Presumably to have that you'd need to have the current gear displayed. So maybe it's worth your while to go to the dealership, get the ECU update, and then ask about the MFD if it still is misbehaving.

Got it back from the service department, Service bulletin didn't fix it. Tech couldn't get the faul to appear, but here's a video:

You want to look at about 1:10

At 0:54 there is a Warning chime and something is annunciated in the center of your MFD (Three lines of text but I cannot read what it says). Exactly 10 seconds later at 1:04 the Warning clears & your MFD returns to "Consumption" (which is what it was on before the Warning chime) and annuciates MFD across the top to let you know it is back on the normal screen. Again it does this for another 10 seconds exactly, to 1:14 when the time/Gear display returns clearing the MFD text. So the time/Gear disappearing is not spontaneous, it is being overwritten in response to the chime, I think. The clue here is the exact 10 second intervals which tie in with the display timeout.

What was the Warning chime annunciating?

Yeah - I was just watching it and noticing the same thing logger. To me it looks as though it's doing what it's meant to be doing. The only thing I was not able to see is as you, what the warning was.

Edit: is it saying "Speed 75 km/h exceeded" ?

@ozgti - this was explained in this thread, if you have a warning such as speed limit, or low fuel, the MFD will display that, then change back do your previous screen. The change of screen will announce its title and the gear indicator will temporarily disappear and then reappear after 10 seconds. This all appears normal in your video.

Yeah, My bad.. Should have diasbled the warnings. Even with or without the warnings, the display still goes to title and then gear.

I'll try to grab another vid later.

Yeah - once the warnings are disabled, it should only go to "titled and then gear" when you tell it to change displays. So if it still does it on its own then, that would be when "sticky buttons" or software bugs would need to be investigated. A video would sure help in that situation (as long as the video clearly shows that no buttons etc were pressed).
