    Thanks logger.

The setup screen locks out while moving, correct, but it is also the only one which displays it full time. Like you said, it disappears occasionally, but mine's longer than 5 seconds. Does yours keep disapearing then re-apearing or stays on constant?

Yes, that is how it is supposed to work. time/gear is temporarily overridden to annunciate the selection you have just made when scrolling screens on the MFD. Not much you can do about this. Function of lack of screen real estate I suppose.

Yeah I was just guessing about the 5 second period, perhaps it is somewhat longer. My time/gear display is constantly there, until such time as I scroll MFD screens - in which case it temporarily disappears to annunciate the MFD screen switch I have just made. To me this makes sense.
The way it behaves is contant regardless of which mode the DSG is in. So provided I am not rooting around changing MFD screens during gear changes I can always see the time/gear display in Tipronic (Manual) mode.

    S'Pose the short answer is...
Don't root around selecting MFD screens during periods when you want the time/gear display to remain visible.

I should clarify, Mine disappears WITHOUT changing MFD screens. It will randomly do this.

It does come on when I open the door like you posted earlier though.

it shouldn't just disappear for no reason.
But i can only go by what my gti does. Swapping from drive to manual it constantly stays on, so unless the 118's are different, i would say you have an issue and get the dealer to look at it

When it randomly disappears - Is it replaced with anything & if so what, or are you just left with a blank line?

It goes to the screen name ie: Audio or MFD. When it goes to the setup screen, it has the mumbo jumbo of no setup unless stationary. So I don't know what's going on then.

Sounds to me like it could be a a faulty button/s in your steering wheel spuriously sending the MFD screen toggle command. See if you can ascertain which direction the screens are spontaneously cycling in relation to the forward/back buttons on the steering wheel. ie note the current screen then the next screen that pops itself. This may help work out which button is triggering (if any). S'Pose there is no chance you are driving with your hands on top of the buttons like a set of handlebars

    Just checked for you.

It goes... Settings <-> MFD <-> Audio

So if you leave it in MFD with the speedo displaying and drive around, the next screen that comes up to hide your time/gear display will give you a clue as to which button (if any) is getting pressed. Right button for Audio and Left for Settings.
Also I noticed that the time delay is 10 seconds until the time/gear display returns when in MFD or AUDIO and it does not return at all in Settings. Latter night be different when driving as I was parked with car off when I checked.
You do not have dinner plate size hands do you? Because someone with large palms could readily press the right hand button unintentionally.

Nope, Hands are on the rim, not the spokes.

IF I change screens when driving, the time/date will disappear to display the screen name, but then comes back on as it should (Then disappears again randomly)

Setup screen = time/gear permanently displayed.
