Front suspension creak over speed humps

My 118TSI (with sport pack) has just developed a creak from the front of the car over speed humps. At the time that it's making this sound you can also hear the same noise when going over uneven roads but not as loud.

I have only done 4,000 kms.

The bugger is that it doesn't do it all the time, but when it has been doing it, it's very noticeable, embarrassing (for VW), and really sounds like you're driving a clapped out taxi!!!!

It's a bit of a recurring nightmare because my 2005 MK5 developed a very similar noise and took many visits to the dealer. I think it was eventually fixed by the dealer but I sold it very soon after so I don't know for sure.

I have got the car booked in for the TSI squeal on acceleration "replacement" and will get the dealer to check it out.

However, has anyone had this same problem and got it fixed? Knowing this will make my life so much nicer when I drop the car off - because knowing my luck it won't be making the noise when I drop it off, but will make it the day after!!

    Thanks!

lol i have this with my 12 month old V6 Passat!!! Dealer keeps telling me its dry bush's...my arguement is that they WILL fix it at the 12 month service cause i didnt pay $60k for a car that sounds like a 1982 Falcon!!!

Hi V6Passat and thanks for replying. Sorry to hear your same issue but in a way glad that I'm not the only one with such a problem (now twice). The analogy to an old Falcon is so true as I remember the suspension on my Grandfather's Fairlane - it was shocking. I will mention the dry bush possibility to my dealer when it goes in, in a couple of weeks. Are your creaks also intermittent? Some days really bad - others not a sound? Would the dealer replace them or lubricate them? In any case it sounds crazy that this kind of maintenance is needed on such new cars.

mine are all the time now...worse when in Comfort Suspension Mode and less notable in Sport Suspension mode - makes sense cause in Comfort mode there is more travel in the suspension. It really is starting to _iss me off now, cause its embarassing when you have people in the car. Good luck getting it sorted. Cheers.....

Instead of giving the service staff a vague description of a noise that they may not be able to replicate or identify why not take the foreman out for a drive and demonstate the noise so he knows EXACTLY how to recreate it and knows EXACTLY what it sounds like. If you don't do this don't get pissed off when they return the car with a "no fault found".

Thanks for the tip Maverick. After owning 4 new volkswagens I understand your advice entirely. Infact owning a VW from my experience, and you're a teeny bit fussy (I think like most of us on this forum), means you're on almost intimate terms with your dealer - so that is what you have to do. However, a lot of the noises my cars have had have been intermittent. Bad noise one minute - not there the next. So you feel like an idiot and a time waster when the noise doesn't repeat itself when you're in the car with the foreman. So, apart from a little patience, I know that the experience of others who have had the same noise will help me enormously.

yep done that twice now...so i think starting to get pissed is a fair position. They have assured me at the 12 months it will be permanantly fixed...cant get an answere as to why they couldnt fix it before then so gave up as have more important issues to deal with.

Great news! the problem was fixed for 24 hours...and then the creaking in the front suspension returned with a vengence. So i canted VW australia and as i suspected there was response was to take it back to the dealer. Soooooooooo i will return it a third time. My response to VWA was that i would return it one more time and that if it was not repaired at this time I would be taking it to a suspension for an inspection and providing them the report.

I had a clicking/creaking noise over speed humps with my mk6 golf - fortunately was able to demonstrate it over speed humps near the service centre. The tech suspected it was the bushes. The lubed them and the noise went away.
