Why not just get the proper ones and be done with it. Your choice of "fluro" (Hyper), Warm white, or red.

I've had the ones from Bold

    Two burnt out

LEDs aren't the right light for footwell

Not sure what you mean by "proper"

    The hyper bright are horrible

Best to either colour the lenses or get coloured OEM equivalents

I've got the "warm white" ones from the link i posted. Very similar colour to normal bulbs. So far so good. I only really bought them to try as i got a few other things from the shop at the same time.

The only complaint i have is that the metal heat sink which covers the bulbs no longer fits - although as the LED's produce next to no heat, this isn't really an issue. Otherwise, they slide in to the housing perfectly.

Otherwise, if your looking for a reliable LED bulb and don't mind the white (fluro) look, then get to SuperCheap Auto and get the LED's they sell there. I have been using some of these bulbs for over a year now in our Mazda (for numberplate and parker lights) and they still work fine. $20 a pair.

Can't remember the brand, but they are in blue packaging and situated in the same isle as the exhaust tips / pod filters / neon lights etc.

    Oh the Bolds produce heat

Went through the whole LED phase with my GTI

This little "experiment" was to see if I felt any different about them or if the tech had improved

    No on both counts

Brimway, be very careful about the footwell ones as they look remarkably similar to the faulty ones I bought a while back.

When you say faulty, did they simply not work/dull? Mine did not work, but were replaced by Autoslick.

Of the four I got from a local eBay seller (photo I posted, red base), 1 melted, two didn't work and one fumed

    Got refunded.

    Yours may be different

Monitored and checked my footwell lights for approx 10 mins last night while they were on and there was no noticeable heat at all - only perhaps a few degrees over ambient temp. Certainly not like a normal bulb which becomes so hot you cant touch it after 10 seconds.

I would have thought it they were going to get hot, 10 mins would be enough to do it.

Cant comment on their reliability just yet as ive only had them for a few days, so time will tell. But they definetly dont get hot.

The only LED's ive had issues with before are cheap crap from eBay. You get what you pay for. My Racing Dash numberplate and boot lights are awesome and work flawlessly.
