Thread: First Golf R 420 hp (315kw) build in the world - Australian exclusive!

    Thanks all - appreciate it.

I am no expert, but with APR chip having a higher air/fuel ratio, wouldnt that create more exhaust? hence producing a different note?

    I could be wrong..

I think it would change the induction sound a little bit due to the increased boost but as the others have said, it wouldn't have an effect on the exhaust note.

This is the second time I've seen an R dyno'd on just the front wheels. I know the Haldex controller can put all drive to the front wheels depending on conditions but do you have to do something to the system to ensure you don't damage it?

Guy, why did you opt for the modified TSI intake over the stock FSI intake? I am looking at buying a Carbonio intake very soon while I wait for delivery of my R ready for installation upon arrival.

    carbonio_cai_golfgti20t.html

The TSI intake looks to use a cone filter while the FSI intake looks to use a panel filter. Are the expected gains better with the modified TSI?

Is there a stage 2 intake pipe for the FSI intake or is this the same piece of hardware for the TSI usable for the R?

    Cheers.

Induction noise is probably more noticeable on the R.

Haldex, disconnecting for dyno purposes is fine, not recommended for long trips as it can overheat the clutches (but this takes a long time). Haldex can not remove drive from the front wheels, only the rear!

On the intake, we modify the TSI Carbonio for the stage 3 kit. we can arrange this at your local APR dealer depending on your needs.

Initially I will only be looking at stage 1 tune and the intake.

After enjoying that for a while I would be looking at upgrading the exhaust. I will then have to decide if I do the downpipe at the same time and move onto stage 2.

So is the TSI intake much better in design over the FSI intake for a stage 3 tune, in that they look to be different sizes and use different filters (panel vs cone)? If I am going to be sticking with a stage 1 tune (potential to upgrade to stage 2), would there be much difference between the two intakes?

I believe there is a butterfly(?) valve in the exhaust that opens during high flow conditions which adds to the sound. This can be disconnected and set ópen for the sound in low flow conditions. No cost way to add audio character. I think I saw a link in VWVortex to R Forum...
I'd chase face to face experts befoe disconnecting...

Bit of in car from the Golf R at the Tuner Challenge.

You can see it was not near as much work as the GTI considering lack of grip!
