With the amount of stage 3's out there (globally) that are copping a flogging with no clutch upgrades at all; it does prove that the DSG boxes are by no means weak or problematic.

Generally when power levels go up on a modified car you MUST upgrade the clutch or at least a bit more cooling hardware to cope with the added torque loads and the DSG's are proving that they can cope quiet well.... in my opinion.

Maybe you need a better intercooler, have you upgraded it (can't remember)?

Have you overheated yours? I haven't at the track even when doing 20 minute constant thrashings. Have seen SST's overheat real quick though and the ZF tranny's

The Evo 6 speeds were weak as piss too! Dont get me started on how many boxes I have blown with past cars

Intake: What we have done is modify the water lines & intake pipe a little so we can use the TSI intake head & filter in this case. I understand that this will be available as a production part in the future.

The airboxes are identical - S3 Golf V & Golf R, so no size difference there.

Stage 2 pipe is only for the Golf 6 GTI cam chain motor, not applicable (at this stage) for the FSI motor (golf R).

Intercooler: - certainly our car only has the stock GTI plastic tanked intercooler. The Pirelli & S3 ran an alloy tanked version (both slightly different) so it seems that the R is hobbled from this point slightly. Cold air is good air!

The "other pipes" - have not seen any data on testing - I have seen bench flow testing and there was no increase in flow (and no increase in diameter through the entire pipe - this was MKV pipes) (really because there is no restriction, especially on the pressure side). I would love to see some data that shows what a difference they make!
That's for the reply on this Guy.

Now, you have to come back and give us more pictures and videos and details so that all us poor sods who need to wait until November don't go insane
    How is the cat-back going?

you obviously havent driven in the middle of summer when its close to 40 degrees and you obviously you dont drive your car hard enough!

Trust me the DSG will cook itself very quickly if driven hard enough on a hot day.

as for you blowing numerous gear box on the evo... i dont think thats a gear box problem buddy... you may want to look at your driving style mate. i know heaps and heaps of people who are hard core track nuts and racers and the evo gearbox is rock solid and i am yet to know anyone with an evo who's blown up their gear box yet. maybe not the sst version but the 6 speed cog swapper is dead solid.

To be fair, Skylines, EVO's and SUPRA's are all known to have solid ass gear boxes capable of huge power increases without changes to the gearbox OR Internals.

STI not so much but they still are strong and they have the new ones running over 400HP without a problem.. On my WRX MY09 for example, first gear whines now.. They are not Straight cut gears or anything, but they are double synchro'd and they are around the 370HP with no problems on the gearbox yet.

I am also suprised to hear you had problems with a manual transmission in an EVO. Its not that common.

I dont know much about the DSG gearbox though, which I have ordered.

Picked it up on Friday after the exhaust development - all going smoothly, car still only has 400km's on it - time to run it in. Will try to get some pictures of the exhaust prototype up next week
