Hey Guy_H, what's the deal with ECU program switching on the Golf R? I notice on the APR site that only a single program is listed, plus a little footnote.
You can trip the stock cover to bet it back on, its a bit of a job - cut away the sides & back & just leave the "skin" - the raised portion on the 4" MAF housing is used to anchor the rear - The boys at Awesome GTI (Manchester) are good at doing this (can't find a pic sorry) - I just cant bear to cut up a $700 engine cover
The stock FSI Carbonio uses the stock engine cover, so no problem there. We are using a modified TSI intake on ours.

I figured as much, better to sacrifice stance for unsprung weight for this car.
Interesting that the Stage 1 apparently nets a sub 5-sec 100.
Is it purely stage 1 ecu remap and no other modifications (i.e. no sticky tyres, no weight removal etc)?
If that is the case then this will be a very worthy upgrade and surprise an awful lot of more expensive cars.
Now you guys just need to work out how to get the haldex from the Bentley Supersports so it runs rear bias rather than front bias.

Guy_H, I have some questions about various APR upgrades for the Golf R and thought I may as well ask here so that other people can find and refer to the information if needed.
I'm considering doing a Stage II upgrade, but I'd like to leave my options open for a future migration to Stage III if possible.
Downpipe:
On the 2.0T STG III - S3, TTS, R page, it mentions that a Stage 3 S3/TTS/GOLF R - Divorced Downpipe is required but not included. The cost is $2495 but it doesn't mention whether the high-flow cat and adaptor is included in that price as it is with the "regular APR downpipe".
Can the Stage III downpipe be used with a Stage II upgrade, or is it only applicable for the Stage III kits?
Also, does the S3 downpipe and highflow cat fit on the R?
Intake:
Is there any advantage to the Stage II Carbonio intake over the Stage I intake? From the looks of things, the stock R piping looks to be quite large and restriction free as it is, and obviously if I went to the Stage III kit later, the Stage II pipe would be discarded anyway.
As a side question to this, the R's engine cover looks to be substantially larger than the GTI's engine cover. It appears that even the intake pipes are covered by a single plastic piece. Can the engine cover still be installed if a Carbonio Stage I or Stage II intake is installed?
Intercooler:
You've stated that the R's intercooler is smaller than the S3's intercooler. Does this mean the R's intercooler is the one used in the Pirelli?
The APR Intercooler seems like a good option if this is the case. I notice that it's designed to connect to the OEM pipes.
There are several forum members (including APR customers) who have mentioned that the OEM pipes are actually a cause of restriction and that changing them even without changing the intercooler can equate to a 3 to 5kw improvement atw. It has been recommended to me to use these two products:
Neuspeed HI-FLO Air Charge Pipe
Neuspeed HI-FLO Turbo Discharge Conversion
What is your opinion on this topic? Do you believe that replacing the OEM pipes to and from the intercooler is worthwhile, and if so, which products do you use?

You may be interested to see this article from Motor Magazine on the Audi S3 from which all these parts have been taken.
Also you may not know Guy_H, but "in real life" he is known as Guy Harding, owner of Harding Performance who distribute and install aftermarket performance upgrades from many companies, including APR, for many brands of cars, VW being one of them.
Now obviously, if you know anything about cars, placing this on a regular dyno won't show 315KW, as that's a flywheel figure (which are much more accurate and consistent) rather than a rolling road "at the wheels" figure, which are very inconsistent even from day to day, let alone dyno to dyno.
Since the S3 that all these parts came from is such a well known car, many of us have seen that even in the "test that everything is working" rolling-road dyno run during its initial build it did 250.1kw atw. There is also many occasions after this that the same car did rolling-road dyno runs as it travelled to events up and down the east coast as part of the APR promotional activities (I can't be bothered looking up the figures for each of these)
So before you go around throwing your own "BS", why don't you first do the slightest bit of research. As for Guy_H, he doesn't need to prove his credibility. You do!

I have done enough kilometres in Guy's cars [and others] to vouch for their performance.
Love these people who come on Forums from nowhere and bag things without doing any research-talk about zero credibility!
