    factory fitted bluetooth

    hi guys

just wondering if anyone knows any details on what the costing for factory fitted bluetooth is? ive seen a spreadsheet that has it as around $1340 which sounds a bit steep to me or is it actually included in the media device interface that you purchase? this australian pricing list http://www.my-gti.com/1588

doesnt have it listed at all so i was wondering if it may be included in any of the other options like the sat nav etc?

also if i were to not purchase it and install an aftermarket one would i be able to connect it up to the steering wheel mounted controls?

    cheers

The biggest rip-off will be the installation cost, as it's fitted at the dealership. The price you've mentioned does not include the Media-In, or SatNav.

MDI is for ipod connectivity only (from what I know). I know the control's for bluetooth are on the steering wheel, and must admit I didn't see it as an option, so assumed this would be included.

Hey buddy, you're best to check out the VW Car Audio and Electronics forum. In there is a thread called Summary of Bluetooth Options for RNS510.

I believe that the ~$1340 bluetooth option on the official price list is the Premium Bluetooth kit. Although that sounds expensive, it is unfortunately in line with other European car manufacturers. It also has much more features than a standard bluetooth. It doesn't just 'mute the stereo' and then allow you to talk, it integrates with all the systems (steering wheel, MFD, sat nav, voice control, etc).

Spot-on. The controls are on the steering wheel regardless.

FWIW, for anyone that is tossing up between standard VW bluetooth, and premium, check that the installation costs are virtually the same. There's no difference in the installation proceedure, besides a slight variation in the programming. To be quite honest, if anyone is being quoted more than $200 to install it (or the Media-In, for that matter), PM me.

    thanks for the responses guys,

i'll go check out that thread now....1300 is so much for bluetooth, but i've got it in my current car and not sure i could take a step back to using an earpiece

You can still get those like $200 bluetooth car kits if you wanted, it's just that they are just like any other $200 bluetooth car kit (crap). The VW one is high quality and fully integrated as as such costs a comparable to price to other premium bluetooth options available from other car manufacturers.

yeah i'd never go for the cheapo ones the inbuilt one is preferred though I'm trying to keep costs down options wise...I'm already getting the Sat-Nav so i guess if i just leave it at this then I'll have basic bluetooth functionality without voice-control (which i never use now)....pretty much I just want the stereo to mute when my phone rings and to be able to use the steering wheel buttons so as not to take my hands off the wheel...anything else would be a bonus but not one that I'd be happy to pay almost $1500 for...

do you know if the sat nav display's caller ID on the sat nav screen with the basic bluetooth option or does it simply mute the stereo and ring?
