    Nic,

Please take heed of what Corey and Emu have said.

The sealant the dealer is selling is nothing more than a wax and polish. It won't protect against chips, scratches and bird poo.

I have one of my cars covered entirely with 3M ventureshield and it has been worth it.

You don't have to go to the extreme of covering the whole car like I have done. The cost of doing my Pirelli came to $2.5K.

I would just do the whole bonnet, front qtr panels and front bar if you don't want to spend that much.

Learned the other day that I have to wait 4 more weeks just to get the car assessed, which of course means 4 more weeks of worrying that they won't write it off. The flip side to that is that I'm no longer worried about it getting scratches or door dings though!

My Jetta has not been acessed yet.
Allianz sent me a letter apologizing, saying they have over 5000 cars to inspect, and thank you for your patience.

I am still enjoying the car,its going better than ever, and another payment has gone through.

This gives me more time to wait for the Jetta 6 ,but who can wait over a year for a new model...

Have also been test driving other cars, just in case its a write off...

Nick,I prefer the Golf in Black over White...

    Ventureshield

    Hi Nic,

I had Ventureshield applied by this guy (James Pierce 0419 435 427; www.invisiblecarbras.com.au ). He's in Scoresby, but works mobile (you need a sheltered environment, eg garage, for him to work in). Very happy with the product and service. No (none!) stonechips (except one in windscreen ) in 3 years/60,000km, despite lots of gravel road travel. He can do the full bonnet coverage (recommended) which, on my Transporter at least, required a double width roll of the film. Cost me $1000 + gst, but it's a lot bigger than a Golf. Much better value than 'paint protection'. I also think it's easier to keep clean. Bugs and tar come off easier.

Are there any paintless dent removal specialists in the Perth metro area that the WA contingent can recommend? I'm not in any hurry to get my two dents fixed, well that's probably just as well given the amout of work these guys will be faced with right now. I know I can but I wanted to know if anyone has had any dealings with a PDR specialist.

    Hi Frankenstrat,

I have few minor dents on the roof (according to few dent repairers not good place to have them ... they have to remove roof coverage from inside to treat dents but also they have to be careful because of airbags - can be activated with vacuum repair tools).
Per dent it is between $85 and $100 ... plus one of them was asking $280 to remove roof inside coverage.

Damage (dents) on my car was not assessed ... and... I am not sure should be doing anything.

Nobody to recommend but I told them I am going to contact them latter when they repair few hundred cars (become more experienced)
Dents are minor but ... not easy to see them ... but

New Golf on the way, and no long wait to endure.

Put the deposit on a black 118tsi with Sport pack and mdi - metallic paint and mdi included for the same price as I got my previous car for. Very happy.

Arrives in Melbourne tomorrow - delivery around 2 weeks after that....phew!

Thanks everyone for your help and advice, and good luck to everyone else going through the same thing.

Maybe it's this weekend I should invest in a tattslotto ticket?
Good to see it's almost all sorted Nic. One question - did you pay exactly the same price as for the previous car? If so, you have saved another $500 on the metallic paint.

Thanks Mirsad, I was washing the windscreen on the Golf this afternoon and spotted another two small dents. I only have one dent in the roof, but with what you're telling me, I may leave that one alone. At $85-$100 per dent, it's not going to be a cheap exercise.
