Couldn't agree more. $5k is a ridiculous amount for a manual with 27,000ks on the clock and no issues during its regular servicing. Typical of these insurance companies to give a blanket quote without considering the true likeihood of a claim.

Was at the dealer that sold me my current car this afternoon. I was wanting a look at and a test drive of the Mk VII GTI. I asked them whether anyone from VWA or the dealership would be contacting me regarding my pending expiry of warranty and road service. The response from the general manager was no we don't do that.

I was quoted a 2 year extension of the manufacturer's warranty (Allianz) and the road service @ $3950. Basically, 20% of the value of my car. I passed. I was told the premiums are all through the roof because of the outlays/claims due to the 118TSI engine issues and the DSG failures.

Meanwhile a 2 year factory warranty extension on the Skoda Octavia RS is $1650.
The Subaru WRX 3 year factory warranty extension is $1650, and it's from the factory not an insurance policy.

That price is an ambit claim, they can do much better than that!

I bought a 3 year (Allianz) warranty extension when I bought my Eos back in 2009 for $1,800 (after some heavy negotiation) from the starting price of about $2,800. When I ordered a new Eos recently, I was initially quoted $3,920 for a two year extension which immediately came down to $2,450 without trying. I'm in two minds about buying although I believe I can get this down further but the increase in price is still astronomical.

I wonder about the excuse you were offfered regarding 118TSI engine failures and DSG failures, most of these I would have thought are being covered by VAG.

    Cheers

    Hi all,
I'm sorry if this is posted in the wrong thread and if it's been answered before but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the 36 month unlimited extended warranty from the warranty group (underwritten but the Virginia Surety Company). Specifically, have there been any issues with claiming? From reading the threads, it seems that the VW extended warranty or the new car warranty extension from Allianz are the policies most people go with but the premiums this year are a bit steep. The Warranty group offers a 3 year extension for over a grand less. It's tempting but after reading the PDS a few things worry me namely:
1.]any part which is covered but not available (liability will be restricted to the required part only and not to any replacement or repair of an entire component)
    2.
component parts or design elements which are found to have been defective at the commencement of Cover, or can be described as having an inherent design fault

It seems to me that virtually any part that fails prematurely can be described as having an inherent design fault which can give the company grounds to withhold payment. Also, I know from talking to people like Jimmy at Alba European that Allianz tend to be quite reasonable when it comes to repairs. I haven't read or heard anything about the Virginia Surety Company so any advice would be appreciated.

P.S. I know that getting the extended warranty is a bit controversial but after having to replace the fuel tank sender, battery, water pump and getting the contacts adjusted on my dipped beam because it was cutting power to the globe on my Gti that has only done 33000 K's , I reckon an extended warranty is worth it, especially considering the cost of replacing say a turbo or a mechatronic unit.

I looked at their PDS a few months back and gave them the flick...too many clauses giving them an out...many more than you found.

Yeah I agree. There's no point saving a bit of money on the policy if they never pay out. Might as well chuck 2 grand down the toilet.

If you read any insurance policy it has clauses and wording to narrow the definitions. Even the factory warranty from new has them. I don't subscribe the to the extended dealer warranty but have bought the VW extended factory warranty underwritten by Allianz. The only reason they won't pay out is if you have breached their requirement and if you keep taking it to the same dealer then they will look after you anyway.

The reverse is true, don't take it out and you are on your own at least if you have got it then you have a good foundation for getting stuff fixed..

I'm thinking of going with the Allianz extended new car warranty. It's pretty much the same PDS as the VW branded one and it's for 3 years for about 2900 dollars. The only difference as far as I can see is that they will replace parts with 'similar parts' rather than specifically OEM
