Hey mate. There was already a thread of the same topic and identical name, so I merged your thread. The answers you seek are already contained in here. Particularly a link which triode12 posted above for a thread which is maintained with the latest news and offers: http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f15/...nty-28828.html

I just purchased the 3 year extended warranty from the Gold Coast. I got a price match from another dealer as a mate got one for a Passat for a huge discount.

The RRP on a Mk6 GTI Warranty is $2590, I got it for $1726. Even though my car is one month old, I intend on keeping this car for a few years and as mentioned before, the price only goes up over time. This is the VW Australia warranty via Allianz (and not a dealer backed one). Interesting point - this was a lot cheaper than my mate's 2009 Passat 2.0 TDI (was RRP 3600, down to $2,400), does this mean a Passat has more expensive repairs or is more unreliable in future than a GTI???????

Not sure if such specials still exist post 30 June, but it was a huge saving. Plus, the Audi warranty is so much more with the same duration, so too Land Rover (which all go through Allianz).

Have you read the extended warranty thread in the MkV subforum. You can get the exact same warranty for about $1400 through Rahid at Chatswood Classic Cars. You can sign up through Rahid and cancel your current policy (and get a refund) saving you $300.

But would that be for a Mk5 or Mk6? I am sure that the Mk6 is more expensive is it not?

They should be the same. If anything, it should be cheaper since the MKVI is newer.
But give Rahid a call and find out what you can get it for. His details are in the thread.

I see. It is interesting that in QLD, no one was willing to go any lower than what I got. The main city dealers are well into the early to mid $2k - maybe more competition in Sydney?

Trying to crunch the numbers in my head then, it seems that at $1,400 for 3 yrs (or even $1,700 for what I paid), it is bloody good piece of mind - annualised at $500+ or so a year. Especially as the GTI has complex and expensive bits which can go wrong. I was looking at a Land Rover Freelander recently and for 2 yrs extended, it is $2700 and no deals to be done on them (also through Allianz). Even an Audi S3 is $4,190 for the same duration as a GTI (granted it has AWD and all...)

My point is, at $1,400-$1,700, I wonder how much the dealer and Allianz can make now - it is like insurance as some will have no (or minimal issues, some major etc) so I do see tangible value there. Unless they are very strict about what is covered/not covered......
