Put your finger into the tail pipe - if it's dry/sooty then you're fine

No negative symptoms that I have noticed. The exhaust pipe seems to be dry - just sooty. Haven't noticed any oily residues yet.

So don't worry

Let the dealer replace pistons and rings under warranty and see what happens

If his average mileage is 10l/100km, the his oil consumption is 100:1.
There are 2-stroke scooters and motorcycles that use less than that.

My GTI has done just over 8000km and completed an oil consumption test last week- using 400ml/1000km. It used to be worse. I believe that under 500ml/ 1000km is within 'normal' limits. I keep oil in the boot like I used to with my first car that was older than I was! I've also bought some metal polish to constantly clean the exhaust tips...

Wish it used less oil however...

I go through about 1L every 15,000km. I'd consider that to be pretty normal. The first 15,000 it went through about 2-3L.

Just picked up the car back from the dealer this afternoon - was there for 7 days for the pistons and rings to be replaced. Obviously too early to tell if that fixed the excessive oil consumption or not.

Not too impressed with the lack of attention to detail - quite a few of the cables / tubes in the engine bay were not pushed back into the lugs.

Seeing this thread was bumped - may as well update on my work collegues Audi A4 2.0TSI as its the same engine as the Mk6 GTI. The pistons were replaced a bit over a year ago, but the engine was still going through a lot of oil.

Recently she had some more issues with the engine and the head was deemed faulty for whatever reason and replaced by Audi. So basically now she has a brand new engine.

Have done just over 700km with the new pistons & rings. Checked the dip stick last night and the oil level hasn't changed at all. Based on the previous consumption rate, I would have used nearly 500mL of oil by now which would have been obvious on the dip stick.

So I guess it's good news - the new pistons and rings seem to have fixed my high oil consumption problem.

Will report back again with more ks on the clock.
